Northam hits back at Trump: 'Dont talk to me about showing up'

Virginia Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam, the Democratic nominee in the commonwealth's gubernatorial race, hit back Thursday against tweeted criticism from President Trump.

Trump is backing Republican Ed Gillespie in the off-year race, and on Thursday he said Northam will be “weak on crime” and “doesn’t even show up to meetings/work.”

A subsequent tweet knocked the president directly, including a video showing Northam, a physician, working at a remote-area medical clinic.

A separate tweet from the president said Gillespie will turn the Virginia economy around and “might even save our great statues/heritage!”.....................

5. Trump is following up an ad that say Northam doesn't show up for Econ development meetings

The ads say Northam missed 58 percent of the Virginia Economic Development Partnership meetings. Northam was an ex officio member of the board and sits on 13 other boards. Northam or his representative attended all VEDP board meetings.

The ads also say Northam “helped lead Virginia’s economic development agency that gave $1.4 million to a Chinese company with a fake website.” However, the board does not approve grants, which are recommended by staff and approved by the governor.
