Federal Prosecutors Issue Subpoenas in Manafort Laundering Probe
Source: Bloomberg
Federal prosecutors in New York have issued subpoenas as part of an investigation into whether former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort used New York real estate transactions to launder foreign money into the U.S. financial system, according to a person familiar with the matter.
The investigation was launched by the U.S. Attorney in Manhattan and subsequently handed off to Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is probing Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election. The issuance of the subpoenas in recent weeks by the Manhattan prosecutor indicates that the office has rejoined the inquiry and moved beyond the initial stage.
At least three law-enforcement offices are now investigating Manaforts transactions. New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is also probing potential money laundering by Manafort.
James Margolin, a spokesman for Acting U.S. Attorney Joon H. Kim, declined to comment. Jason Maloni, a spokesman for Manafort, didnt have an immediate comment on the issuance of subpoenas. Manafort has not been accused of wrongdoing.

A key point: the NY A.G. is also probing money laundering by Manafort.
DT can't save Manafort from NY state charges.

(108,978 posts)The NY AG, though, could go easy on Manafort in exchange for evidence on DT.

Wonder what goes on in his head about this.
He is getting more paranoid by the day.

(3,245 posts)first, I didn't see who was subpoenaed. Who just might give us an indication on how this track mirrors Mueller's and Schneiderman's investigations.
Trump may not necessarily be able to stop, but he can sure find ways to mitigate the damage if this does come to fruition. Take into consideration the reports coming out about how he is personally interviewing candidates for the AG of this district as well as certain other "problem" districts where he may need friendly AG's in office. Personally, I think that reporting now ties directly to this news story and this investigation.
I think we'll get a very good indication of just how much exposure Trump may have here by who he finally nominates and how quickly he demands the Senate confirmation.

Do you suppose he can count on McCain, Flake, and Corker?

(3,245 posts)I don't remember these types of nominations being that much of a news breaker. But he may only need 1 at a time with Pence being the tiebreaker.
