Fox News Poll: Democrat Jones Tied With GOPer Moore In Alabama Senate Race
By ESME CRIBB Published OCTOBER 17, 2017 6:38 PM

Former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore (R) and former U.S. Attorney Doug Jones (D) are tied in their race for Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ vacated Senate seat, according to a poll released Tuesday by Fox News.

According to the survey, Moore and Jones are tied at 42 percent among registered voters in Alabama, a deep-red state.

The poll was conducted from Oct. 14–16, 2017, from a sample of 801 Alabama registered voters, by landline and mobile phone, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percent.

Other surveys released in September and October showed Moore leading Jones, but the single-digit margins in those polls, as well as the Fox News survey, suggest that Moore’s and Jones’ race for Sessions’ seat could be a competitive one.

Moore doesn't have a good election record IN Alabama.

Courts and appeals tossed him out of his high-profile judgeships - twice.

He's been rejected as the Republican gubernatorial nominee multiple times, so he is viewed by many in Alabama as a blowhard loser!

the AL media covers the unsavory aspects of Moore's conduct such as taking $1 million clandestinely from some dopey "Moral Values" type foundation, AKA money laundromat emptying into his greedy pockets.

Michelle Nunn was running for US Senate. Jason Carter (Pres Carter's grandson) was running for governor. This was 2014. Both were tied with GOP's days before the election. We saw the same flawed polling in the Jon Ossoff run a few months ago.
Voter oppression is alive and well in Georgia.

This was in addition to 2% won't vote and 3% vote for someone else. Looking through the cross tabs, it is possible that these could split, but they might split to their normal party -- in which case, it is likely Republican. It is interesting that the % in the sample that self identified as Republican was 47% -- and only 42% chose Moore. The percent identified as Democrat is 37% -- so Jones, at 42 is overperforming. The remaining 16% were independent/other.

for the Republicans to steal, they will. Voter suppression, "lost" votes in Democratic precincts.....you all know the GOP drill. They can make a double digit lead disappear overnight. It's very important for precinct captains to keep an eye on everything locally, and for the Democratic leaders in the state to keep a sharp eye on the GOP statewide.

I don't trust the Republicans one iota.

Did the party employ money and planning to bring this polling result about---or are the just as surprised as the rest of us are?

Those are the questions we ought to be asking at this point.

'Likely voters' polls carry much more weight. We tend to rely too heavily on polls of registered voters instead of looking at polls of 'Likely voters'.

For once can the good guys squeak out a win in these red state backwaters.

Or will a rash of fake scare ads pop up in the final days by big dark money about Democrats taking guns away or the need to once and for all rid the nation of the commie Obamacare to once again push the fascists over the line.

If you look at the internals of the poll it shows Trump with a +1 approval rating in Alabama. Absurd. It polled 44% Democrats and only 37% Republicans with just 19 percent self-identifying as politically independent. This is a deep red state. According to the latest Gallup national party affiliation survey (July 5-9), 28 percent consider themselves Democrats, 25 percent Republican, with 45 percent declaring as Independents.

People will believe anything when it makes them feel good.

Polls sometimes have different internals if they get a random sample. Hopefully it at least picked up on a trend. It would provide some comfort to know Moore is even too crazy for Alabama.
