Trump warns McCain to 'be careful' about criticizing him: 'I fight back -- and it won't be pretty'

Source: RawStory

President Donald Trump on Tuesday fired back at Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), who on Monday delivered a speech slamming Trump’s brand of “half-baked nationalism.”

Appearing on talk radio station WMAL in Washington DC, Trump was asked about the criticism McCain leveled at him this week, in which he lashed out at “half baked, spurious nationalism” that’s being “cooked up by people who had rather find scapegoats than solve problems.”

“People have to be careful because at some point I fight back,” Trump told WMAL radio host Chris Plante. “You know, I’m being very nice. I’m being very, very nice. But at some point I fight back and it won’t be pretty.”

Trump has regularly attacked McCain after the senator was a key vote against the Republican efforts to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act this past summer. In addition to McCain, Trump has also regularly picked fights with Sens. Bob Corker (R-TN) and Jeff Flake (R-AZ).

Service personnel all take an oath to obey the president. Not mumbling word in the oath or the UCMJ about thinking he's a soulless coward. In this one situation silence does not imply consent or agreement.

They also take an oath to support and defend the Constitution...and that part precedes the part to follow the orders of the President!

So, the question here is, if pressed what will the military do...obey a president who willingly violates the Constitution, or defend the Constitution?

I asked myself that a couple of times during Watergate. You're right; the Constitution comes first. I'd like to think that I'd defend it even if it meant possibly being strung up for mutiny. That's me; however what the troops think today, that's another matter.

The other problem is a military coup. Even for the most righteous reason that would be the end of us.
Hypotheticals: Trump's removed by the top brass; who takes his place? With the possible exception of Tillerson and Mattis, the order of succession is flunkies, idiots and self servers all the way down. Would a general take over (and it's always generals, never admirals)? That's the ballgame right there. Would the military impose its will on a replacement POTUS? Would that top brass willingly allowed themselves to be punished or at minimum step aside? Finally as they say, if you strike at the king, don't miss. Otherwise, Trump would destroy the armed forces right down to the slick sleeves. Finally however it played out, what's left of civilian trust and respect for the military would quick step to the latrine/head.

So to defend the Constitution, it allows for legal methods to remove a president. If it's ignored, then it's violated.

McCain should tell Trump to "bring it on". Even in the throes of brain cancer, his thought processes are far superior to Trumps messed up mind. It wouldn't even be close.

McCain also has credibility and the respect of many and I assume a huge amount of sympathy and respect that he continues to work with the terrible diagnosis that he has. I know the core Trump base did not care during the election and I doubt they care now -- even insulting him on twitter as a "Democrat" ! However, Trump will need more than his core base.
