Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl pleads guilty to desertion
Source: CNN
Fort Bragg, North Carolina (CNN)Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl pleaded guilty to desertion and misbehavior before the enemy via his attorney Monday.
Bergdahl was charged after he disappeared from his base in Afghanistan in June 2009 and was held in captivity by the Taliban until May 2014.
The Taliban released Bergdahl in a prisoner swap for five detainees at Guantanamo Bay.
During questioning from a judge Monday, Bergdahl said, "I left my observation post on my own." He also said, "I understand leaving was against the law."

"traitor" who should be executed.
CNN also should have reported that a number of Bergdahl's
former officers said that no US troops died in the search for him.
And they might have included a discussion noting that LOTS of
soldiers walk away from war - not just Bowie. And that much of
it is related to PTSD

(94,572 posts)...I have great respect for people who serve in the military, and I'm not sure I could handle it personally. However:
1. Bergdahl volunteered to serve. In doing so, he accepted responsibility both for his job assignment, and the protection of those serving with him. He put them at risk by abandoning his assigned post and by obligating others who DID accept responsibility for the protection of other soldiers to risk their lives searching for him
2. Bergdahl pled guilty
3. I'm still not seeing an issue with CNN factually reporting that Bergdahl pled guilty.

Assets were diverted, missions were scrubbed, air was sent elsewhere...
All to find this lone dumbass....
When most folks walk away from the military, they don't do it in the actual warzone itself.
