Donald Trump’s administration on Monday expressed its “strong support” for a 20-week abortion ban currently being considered by the House of Representatives, according to a statement issued by the Office of Management and Budget.

In a statement, the OMB indicated it “applauds” the effort “to secure critical pro-life protection” by making “it unlawful for any person to perform, or attempt to perform an abortion of an unborn child after 20 weeks,” or roughly five months of gestation. “The bill would promote a science-based approach to unborn life,” the statement claims.

As Planned Parenthood notes, as many as 99 percent of abortions take place before 21 weeks, but the Supreme Court guarantees access to abortion until fetal viability, which typically occurs around 24 weeks.

What is an unborn child? If a fetus in the womb is an unborn child, then killing it would be murder from conception to birth. So does the religious right accuse God of being the biggest abortionist? If a pregnant woman gets cancer, wouldn't the doctor be a murderer if he gives her chemo?

A federal ban would trump states' laws, if the Supreme Court were to uphold it with this conservative court.

N accounting for mother's life or health, or even if the fetus is expected to survive. So a fetus found to have no brain stem or some other insurmountable birth defect that dooms the child to die hours or days after birth (or be kept alive as a vegetable) wouldn't matter; if you learned of such a problem at 6 months you'd be doomed to carry the pregnancy to term and if the brainless infant somehow survived it's your burden to deal with for life.

Think of how this would affect women if Zika virus takes hold here (quite possible after all the hurricanes/floods). You can't diagnose it until often 7 months or later. This could be worse than the Thalidomide babies without some of their limbs -- a generation of babies born with severely shrunken brains.
