WASHINGTON ― Following yet another mass shooting in America, Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), who made gun control his cause after the 2012 attack by a gunman at Sandy Hook Elementary School in his home state in which the victims included 20 children, pilloried his colleagues in Congress for having done nothing to prevent such assaults.
Wasting no time responding to the shooting in Las Vegas last night in which at least 50 people reportedly were killed ― the deadliest such incident in modern U.S. history ― Murphy on Monday morning issued a statement imploring Congress to get off its ass and do something.
My heart goes out to the victims, their families, the first responders, and the entire Las Vegas community. Nowhere but America do horrific large-scale mass shootings happen with this degree of regularity, he said.
This must stop. It is positively infuriating that my colleagues in Congress are so afraid of the gun industry that they pretend there arent public policy responses to this epidemic, he said. There are, and the thoughts and prayers of politicians are cruelly hollow if they are paired with continued legislative indifference. Its time for Congress to get off its ass and do something.......................................

Pres Obama's speech about Sandy hook is still fresh in my mind. I remember his teary eyes, his choppy voice. I tried listening to trump today, but there was no emotion in his his voice at all.
I also recall obama and dems pushing for some gun control regulations and that 41 GOP Senators voted the bill down.
Just a sad day for me--and I am sure for many others.
Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) wasted no time responding to the shooting at a country music festival in Las Vegas, the deadliest such attack in modern U.S. history.

(81,521 posts)That's not the name of it, but Bill Bratton, former LAPD chief now NBC Senior Analyst, said it'll get passed.
UNLESS WE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THAT, MAYBE??? (HINT: handy TOLL FREE Capitol Hill Switchboard numbers conveniently located in my sig line below.)
BTW:
Arkansas Granny looked it up:
It's called "The Hearing Protection Act of 2017". Makes it sound nicer.

(33,982 posts)That's all it does. It brings the report of the gun down below the threshold that damages the human ear drum. Doesn't make it silent or confuse you as to where it's coming from.
In many European countries, where gun control is MUCH stronger, suppressors (often called silencers because Hollywood) are REQUIRED at gun ranges, and sold without license or restriction whatsoever (France, Norway). In the UK they're called 'courtesy devices' and 'sound moderators'.
