Hes a racist president: Mainland Puerto Ricans are furious over Donald Trumps debt talk amid hurricane crisis
-snip-
I dont remember him discussing costs when he came to Texas or when he came to Florida, said Flores, 37, a New Jersey receptionist of Puerto Rican descent. Im not surprised. I followed the election, and I am from New York, so Ive known the name Trump for a very long time. But when people are suffering and dying, and thats my family, Im beyond offended.

It sickens me, said Angel Vazquez, 30, a graphic designer in Atlanta who moved from Puerto Rico as a child. Hes a racist president. He was elected because of the base that he was catering to. And hes just someone whos following through on exactly what he was going to say.
Its really hard to talk about bankruptcy and debt when people have no power, no water, no homes, and their entire lives have been devastated, said Julio Ricardo Varela, 48, a journalist from Puerto Rico who co-hosts the In the Thick political podcast.
Comments like those come across as not only incredibly short-sighted and insensitive, but it just confirms how the United States, as a country, views its colonial territory. Bringing up the debt just brings up old wounds. Yep, were a colony. You had to remind us, huh? The islands destroyed, but you had to remind us that we have no control over our destiny. Thank you.

Devastating article by Daniel Dale of the Star's Washington bureau. (Dale is the journalist who's well known for fact-checking Trump.)
The article concludes on an interesting note, pointing out that many Puerto Ricans whose homes and livelihoods have been destroyed might relocate to Florida, joining the PR community there, "potentially making that state more Democratic-leaning."

Texas and Florida got quick emergency responses.
Puerto Rico? Not so much.
Why?
Trumpy gets consumed by thoughts of vengeance.
Need we go further with this line of thought?

(22,075 posts)After hearing this plea from the mayor of San Juan 3 times this evening on MSNBC, I had a thought. What if this were the territory of another country.....say, China or Russia or wherever. And its people were begging for help from around the world, because they were dying. Would the admin be outraged? Would they send a big relief effort?
What would Rump do if Russia sent an army to take care of Puerto Rico?

The mayor's plea on Rachel was indeed heartbreaking. I've hope that once enough military personnel are there things will be looking better. Hope it's not too late for some.

(5,801 posts)he's making their unconcern and lack of empathy for the non-rich blatantly apparent.
No more hiding your evil aims, GOPee--everyone should see clearly now that they don't care whether people suffer and die.
And their insensitivity is highlighted by rolling out the plan to cut taxes for the rich the same week that Puerto Rico is suffering and dump is bloviating about PR's debt being an impediment to recovery. If the wealthy still paid a more fair tax rate, jurisdictions wouldn't have to amass so much debt.
