Poll: NFL protests, Trump's response both unpopular

Source: The Hill

BY JULIA MANCHESTER - 09/29/17 10:31 AM EDT

Americans disapprove of the widespread NFL protests during the national anthem as well as President Trump's sharp criticism of the protests, according to a new poll by CBS News/YouGov poll.

Fifty-two percent of Americans polled said they disapproved of NFL players kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial injustice, while 38 percent of Americans said they approved. But participants similarly dislike President Trump's harsh criticism of players who choose to protest, with 48 percent saying they disapprove of his comments. Thirty-eight percent said they approved of Trump's response.

The poll comes as the president continues to take part in a war of words with the league.

Trump ripped NFL players during a rally last week for then-GOP Senate candidate Sen. Luther Strange (R-Ala.) in which he said, "“Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. Out! He’s fired. He’s fired!’”

I don't like the NFL at all, and don't care about this protest which is getting way to much public attention in my opinion. That being said, I'm ok with peaceful protest and think the presidents comments are racist and inflamatory.

I appreciate athletes and competition, especially the ones that don't scramble players brains and promote violence.

Rogue policemen murdering unarmed African-Americans like big game animals and getting away with it?

Fixed it:

Too MANY white Americans disapproved of NFL players kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial injustice, while 38 percent of Americans said they approved.

They were asked "Do you approve or disapprove of football players protesting by kneeling during the national anthem?". Then given 5 options if they strong or somewhat approved or disapproved. Last option was that they didn't have enough information. But if I changed football players with Neo Nazis or White Supremacist are people's responses supposed to be the same?

"Do you approve or disapprove of Neo Nazis protesting by holding rallies?" I have a very hard time saying I would strongly approve or somewhat approve this. However I do agree they have that right.

including the murder of a white protester of murder in the streets by a neo-nazi, and the filthy, murderous bile poured out by racist monsters who pray for the chance to murder others in the streets themselves and get by with it.

Attempting to pretend there is anything whatsoever in common between protesters of murder and worshippers of murder is shameful anywhere, any time.

Of course trump and the righties have taken over the meaning and I don't know how we can get it back to inequality & police brutality towards African-Americans. I'm white and know what it's about.

Someone should do a study of why.
They don't want to admit there is a problem?
Feeling inadequate and guilty because it points a finger at their own beliefs?
They are confused; and angry about being confused.
etc

and anyone watching Ken Burns' Vietnam documentary will see that as the protests grew and millions upon millions of Americans of all walks of life and all ethnicities came together to protest, there were still many that thought the protesters were just wrong and dangerous. Of course, now, decades later, we can see that WE were right. So much information was kept from the public by the so-called leaders. Nixon was a raging lunatic.
