Clinton: Some women 'disrespected themselves' at Trump campaign rallies

Source: The Hill

BY JULIA MANCHESTER - 09/23/17 11:47 AM EDT

Hillary Clinton condemned the behavior of some women supporting now President Trump in an interview on Saturday, saying she does not understand why they would publicly disrespect themselves.

"When I see women doing that, I think why are they publicly disrespecting themselves? Why are they opening the door to have someone say that about them in their workplace? In a community setting? Do they not see the connection their?" Clinton told MSNBC's Joy Reid on "AM Joy."

"And I think that's one of the problems with sexism. We had such a public and still an ongoing movement to expand civil rights. Again, I'm proud of the progress, but we still have a lot of problems we have to confront," she continued.

Clinton made the comments when she was responding to Reid, who asked how she felt about people at Trump's often raucous campaign rallies, who took part in chanting "lock her up," and using profanity to make fun and disparage her. "It was deeply troubling on several levels. And I try to unpack this, because first of all it's not pleasant to be called names and to be subjected to the kind of insults that come across the online media all the time, which we see when women express an opinion," Clinton said

Clinton: 'Certainly a lot of evidence' Trump is appealing to white supremacists

BY JULIA MANCHESTER - 09/23/17 11:28 AM EDT

Former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton said in an interview that aired on Saturday there is "a lot of evidence" that President Trump appeals to white supremacists.

"I certainly think there is a lot of evidence as to how he has behaved historically, during the campaign, and as president, that he is appealing to those who are [white supremacists]," Clinton told MSNBC's Joy Reid on "AM Joy."

"Now, I can't look into his heart. I can't say what he really feels, because I think he is such a political opportunist, that if he could get you know, votes and loyalty from a different direction he would probably go there," she continued. "But he started off from the very first day attacking Mexicans, calling them rapists. He had dog whistles that got increasingly louder on immigrants and Latinos and African-Americans and women and Muslims and the whole panoply of scapegoats that he was holding out to his supporters as the explanation for whatever their grievance was," she said.

Clinton's comments come during a tour promoting her new book "What Happened," which documents the 2016 campaign and loss to Trump.

I am a man who is proud to call himself a feminist.

But people like Trump wouldn't get anywhere if they didn't have women who enabled them. I am sorry that is just a fact.

It's sad but not exactly a revelation that there are women who decide it's a man's world and that's ok with them.

10. And yet... We also know the results are very much in question, especially since Hillary won...

...the overall vote.

I think we ought to start questioning everything about this election, including this meme.

14. How do you know that a majority of white women voted for Trump?

The vote as counted by voting machines, all of them, as they as now programmed and used, are either impossible to check to make sure they counted the votes correctly (touch screens w/o paper) or they are never recounted or checked statistically to make sure they counted properly.

Until we can be sure of the actual vote count we really can't say anything about what groups voted for a particular candidate.

HAND-COUNTED PAPER BALLOTS are the gold standard in fair elections. Ireland just threw away all their machines, sold them as scrap metal, which is really about all they're worth. Same thing happened in Germany after 2009 when Germany's Supreme Court for constitutional questions outlawed the use of voting machines. If you want a DEMOCRACY, the justices said, you can't count the vote on easily hacked and unverified voting machines.

Here's an article about the court decision in Germany in 2009 if you're interested:

I don't know how any woman can condone her behavior. She has no self respect.

6. Hillary Clinton should demand an apology from Trump for saying she is a criminal.

She should file a court order demanding an end to him disparaging her reputation and to stop the harassment. Hillary Clinton needs to fight back with a well thought out plan of gaining respect back from Trump. Her hard core supporters should help by publically defending her. Trump has more to lose than Hillary Clinton over a public feud.

9. I think Clinton is seeking a vindication beyond Law

and more basic that involves all of us in a democracy.

She raised this issue when she recently addressed the question of what do we do if we find we have an illegitimate president.

I don't think she is seeking personal vindication so much as she is seeking a vindication of our democracy.

We have three branches to our government. What do we do as a people when one branch is proved to be illegitimate, and the other two branches seem to be unable to effectively and immediately act to address the illegitimacy.

I don't see her filing a court order but you may be right that it would be useful.

I am in agreement that public defense of Clinton and any of our candidate who are unjustly disparaged and lied about-the public scapegoating with the purpose of inflaming a mob and mob action need to be addressed.

12. That would be a complete waste of time and energy. Trump has no respect to give back to anyone...

His entire life he has won "public feuds," and finally made it to the WH. He has no shame, he has no conscience, and he will tell any lie to advance himself if only for a moment.

The idea of taking anyone to court to fight the smears against both Clintons is almost laughable. It's been a GOP industry for 30 years -- the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy. If Bill and Hillary had gone to court they would have been obliterated long ago. Instead they have proceeded with their lives, earning some money for themselves in the great American tradition, and by the way doing a lot of good in the world.

As for Hillary "fighting back" -- you may have noticed that she is. She wrote a book and is giving increasingly candid interviews. Yet some people on both the Left and the Right want the little lady to STFU and retreat to a cave to lick her wounds. We're still fighting that out here on DU, depending on the day of the week.

Hillary is doing her part, with dignity, poise, and blunt honesty. It's up to us to do the rest. Resist, tell the truth, and GOTV 2018.

13. Women who love Trump . . .
Sat Sep 23, 2017, 02:02 PM
Sep 2017

. . . are often women who have lost out in life, who did not make it through college, who lost their jobs, who lost their husbands to women who made them feel inferior. Instead of blaming the system that makes it much more difficult for women to meet their expectations of good careers and to have the family lives they are conditioned to need, they blame the women who they believe had unfair advantages due to beauty or connections to elites.

They HATE these women much more than they hate misogynist men who ill treat them. When they see a woman who fits the image of the "feminist," they shift in their chairs and mutter under their breaths.

It's internalized misogyny. They have bought into the male chauvinist critique of feminist women in a way that manifests even more viciously at times than those of misogynist males.
