(Reuters) - Apple Inc's new version of its iPhone and iPad software will not include a pre-packaged app for Google Inc's popular video website, YouTube, Apple said on Monday.
The move marked the latest sign of the growing rivalry between the two technology companies, close on the heels of Apple's decision to dump Google's mapping software from its devices.
"Our license to include the YouTube app in iOS has ended," Apple said in a statement on Monday. "Customers can use YouTube in the Safari browser and Google is working on a new YouTube app to be on the app store."

(196 posts)Google does a lot of work. Google is becoming a modern day GE as they try to jump into more markets. Apple is greedy and its software is closed off. Not that Google isn't greedy...just saying that Apple is more obvious.

(12,412 posts)I remember when everyone ragged on Microsoft for upgrading to a new OS every few years. Now Apple seems to put out a "new" product every 6 months and each time with less features, especially those that are not "apple" owed.
When will enough be enough?

(152 posts)Android and Windows Mobile have free updates.
If you're talking about OS X then it does cost to upgrade. And seems similarly priced. Previously OS X upgrades were like $60, and to Windows 7 was about $90. Now Windows 8 upgrade is like $15, close to OS X Lion upgrade. Of course one could always just use Linux for free, but neither Linux nor OS X can play the good games, assuming one desires that functionality.
Keep in mind that Apple can charge a lot less and get the same profit when it comes to their software, because you're also buying their heavily overpriced hardware.
