President Donald Trump suggested Friday that he will not sign any immigration bill that would set the stage for chain immigration. CHAIN MIGRATION cannot be allowed to be part of any legislation on Immigration! Trump tweeted.
Trump has given Congress until March to seek a legislative solution to former President Barack Obamas Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program and reform the nations immigration system.
The president has been sympathetic toward so-called Dreamers, undocumented immigrants who were brought into the U.S. as children. And Democrats have urged Trump to support the DREAM Act, legislation that would provide a path to permanent legal status for Dreamers.

(21,852 posts)Is he talking about family-based immigration? If immigration is not family-based, what would it be? If an individual can only petition for himself based on his education or work skills, then immigrants would be alone in a foreign country. What does that mean for the US and the community that person would live in? I think it would mean that many immigrants would not have ties or just few ties to the community they live in. On the whole, it would be bad for the US and the immigrants themselves.
