Chelsea Manning, Sean Spicer Named Fellows at Harvard

Source: Reuters

Sept. 13, 2017, at 11:36 a.m.

BOSTON (Reuters) - Chelsea Manning, the transgender U.S. Army soldier who served seven years in prison for leaking classified data, and former White House spokesman Sean Spicer have been named visiting fellows at Harvard University, the school said Wednesday.

"Broadening the range and depth of opportunity for students to hear from and engage with experts, leaders and policy-shapers is a cornerstone of the Institute of Politics," said Bill Delhunt, acting director of the institute at the Harvard Kennedy School. "We welcome the breadth of thought-provoking viewpoints on race, gender, politics and the media."

The two are part of a group of a dozen political leaders and journalists who will serve as visiting fellows at the school for the 2017-2018 academic year.

Manning, 29, was released in May from a U.S. military prison in Kansas where she had been serving time for passing secrets to the WikiLeaks website in the biggest breach of classified data in the history of the United States.

Without making it directly about Manning, a 29 year old who spent nearly a quarter of her life so far in prison (no matter how unjst that was) is qualified for a fellowship at an Ivy League School?

I'm not pleased with the Spicer selection either, but he's not an under 30 year old who lost 7 years of experience to prison.

As subjective as it is, her qualifications appear to fit within (and certainly are not denied by) the Fellowship Society's parameters, and her inclusion could be as arguable as that of fellow Fellow and comic book critic, Hillary Chute.

I'm not even sure if either of those people even earned a degree. (?)

They're certainly NOT examples of the first-class education that Harvard University represents.

Chelsea Manning is suddenly the "cause celebre" of the NYC crowd. Look folks, this is a crossdresser who hasn't had surgery, etc. How exactly does she qualify for a fellowship??

And some of the stuff she leaked may have caused us to end up with trump.
