Irma: Tropical storm warning, flash flood watch for metro Atlanta

Source: Atlanta Journal Constitution

A tropical storm warning is in effect for metro Atlanta as Hurricane Irma makes its way north from Florida.

Channel 2 Action News’ Katie Walls warned Sunday that the first rain showers and wind gusts are expected to arrive Monday morning and will pick up throughout the day.

Metro residents can expect wind gusts over 60 mph and three to seven inches of rain, in addition to possible tornadoes, she said.

Falling trees and power outages are likely.

I'm in the yellow area, one county north of the Tropical storm warning, flash flood watch for metro Atlanta. Doesn't make me feel safe and secure, though. Where's a massive high-pressure system moving rapidly down from Canada when you need one?

So we're overdue for some major snow. We had a blizzard in 1993 that dumped three feet of snow in the southern Appalachians. One hopes that won't happen again. I can't even imagine 40 below.

I have to be in Gainesville early Tues a.m. and I'm heading down tonight. I have no desire to cross a mountain tomorrow in heavy rain with 60 mph wind gusts.

Now, driving on the mountain roads terrifies me...all those curves and hills! Safe journeys!
