Mnuchin: Treasury could scrap plans to replace Jackson on $20 bill

Source: The Hill

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Thursday that the Treasury Department could scrap plans finalized under President Obama to replace President Andrew Jackson on the front of the $20 bill with Harriet Tubman.

Mnuchin told CNBC that he’s not focused on the planned currency changes, and wouldn’t commit to following through on them. He said the primary reason the Treasury changes the design of bills is to prevent counterfeiting, something Obama administration officials also emphasized when announcing the changes in April 2016.

“It’s not something that I’m focused on at the moment” Mnuchin said. “The issues of why we change it will be primarily related to what we need to do for security purposes.”

The Treasury Department announced changes to $20, $10 and $5 last year. The department initially planned to place Jackson's image with an image of the White House on the back of the $20 bill. New designs for the back of the $10 bill featured leaders of the suffrage movement, while the back of the $5 bill would feature depictions of historic civil rights events that took place at the Lincoln Memorial.

IMO.

You have to have Washington on a bill, so taking him off the $1 doesn't make a lot of sense.

Jefferson is on the $2 bill, which is not widely circulated, so putting her on that bill would seem like a cop out.

Lincoln, the best President ever, can't be removed from the $5 bill.

Hamilton could easily be removed from the $10.

Grant is on the $50, but has the same issue as the $2 bill.

And Benjamin Franklin is on the $100, and I kind of like having a scientist on our currency.

So, if we're taking votes of which bill to put Harriet Tubman on, I vote for the $10 bill.

The first SecTreasury should be on one bill, and his foresight made the country we are today. If we followed Jacksonian industrial and banking principles for example, we would be a country more like Mexico or Argentina with a limited presence in the world.

Like Jackson he was a self made man. He was personally courageous and led men into battle like Jackson.

Taking us back to MAGA of the 50s. 1850s that is.

4. A free negro of the African race, whose ancestors were brought to this country and sold as slaves, is not a "citizen" within the meaning of the Constitution of the United States.

5. When the Constitution was adopted, they were not regarded in any of the States as members of the community which constituted the State, and were not numbered among its "people or citizens." Consequently, the special rights and immunities guarantied to citizens do not apply to them. And not being "citizens" within the meaning of the Constitution, they are not entitled to sue in that character in a court of the United States, and the Circuit Court has not jurisdiction in such a suit.

Within the scope of the world that she lived, she made a fine contribution to the best of what our country is today.

She was a woman of action that represents the dreams of all Americans.

She was of superior historical significance, unless you're looking for bad examples to learn from, rather than good examples to aspire to.

this coming from the administrators of the racist who is in control and running/ruining our country now....he so hates a better man than he and his efforts to make ameriKKKa more all inclusive....the trumpracist is pretty pathetic.....as a human being and a man/leader. That he is pretending to be potus and a leader is enraging. ANY attempts by a real man and 1st class human being and POTUS to make america for all americans and is being turned back by him is making him show just how very small a man he is. VERY, VERY small.....Fuck trump.
