Congress should retain ObamaCares individual mandate until theres a better replacement, according to a proposal released Thursday by a bipartisan group of governors.
The compromise plan, which is spearheaded by Govs. John Kasich of Ohio (R) and John Hickenlooper of Colorado (D), is meant to help lawmakers find common ground to help stabilize the insurance markets. The governors acknowledged that the mandate, which requires people to purchase health insurance or pay a fine, is unpopular.
But for the time being it is perhaps the most important incentive for healthy people to enroll in coverage, they wrote to House and Senate leaders of both parties. Until Congress comes up with a better solution or states request waivers to implement a workable alternative the individual mandate is necessary to keep markets stable in the short term. Governors of six other states also signed onto the plan: Alaska, Nevada, Louisiana, Montana, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
The plans release comes ahead of a series of bipartisan Senate hearings starting next week on how to stabilize and strengthen the individual insurance market. Hickenlooper is expected to testify along with other governors at one of the hearings.

(23,113 posts)Of course, Drumpf is just as likely to veto this in the unlikely event enough Repugs approve to pass a bill with these guidelines. He wants to DESTROY Obamacare and won't settle for anything less, the fucking orange assface that he is.

(11,175 posts)Multiple sources have reported that he's totally clueless about the contents of any of the bills concerning health care. He'll sign anything that's put in front of him because he just wants to be able to clam a win.
His utter disdain for facts is well known. As long as he gets a bill that makes any change in the ACA, he'll tout it as a great win and a fulfillment of his campaign promises.
Which is more important to him personally, a win or destruction of something Obama related?

fable that he is a nice normal reasonable republican. He is not, he is a rightwinger who worked very closely with Newt Gingrich with his contract on America as one of his budget deputies.

(2,574 posts)because nothing Colbert could say would penetrate Kasich's selfreferrential loop.. (i.e I'm right bkz I''m right, your opinion/knowledge does not matter) He just kept repeating the crappy ("mainstream" GOP austerity, states rights, trickle down mantra. Of course, Kasich had no idea how much of a fool he appeared, a hopelessly arrogant jerk who cannot listen to or digest anything other than his own opinions. Colbert had a hard time containing himself, not laughing in Kasich's face, Kasich the supposedly "reasonable" Republican couldn't even carry on a dialogue.
Kasich pours on his "working class, my father was a postman,f roots" really thick. I bet he voted for is in favor of ALEC/ Issa's long term program to privatize the USPO. Also every interview, even at the debates, Kasich is always super hopped up. Is he on some drug or something or is it just hyper egotism that makes him incapable of listening to anyone and always in Fox pundit fillibuster gear.
There is nothing mainstream or reasonable about Kasich.
