Ret. General Rips Officials For Chummy Storm Response: 'Stop Patting Each Other on the Back'

Source: Mediaite

Speaking to host Erin Burnett from Houston, Lt. General Russel Honore (Ret.) tore into the effort so far from officials — federal, state and local — while pointing out that they don’t have a grip on how large this disaster really is.

Honore, who commanded the military response to Hurricane Katrina, noted that the state needs to realize the job is too big for the National Guard and give control to the US military, saying that state officials need to “get the hell over it.” The retired general also said that evacuations should have happened earlier, stating that the elderly, sick and those in areas previously flooded should have been the first to have been evacuated.

He also told Burnett that he had more resources on hand for Katrina than what is available for Harvey, leading him to slam those in charge.

“Something is wrong with our command and control, and they need to stop patting each other on the back while these people are out here waiting to be rescued,” Honore exclaimed.

We HAVE the kind of people needed to address these issues, but we lack any semblance of leadership in charge to authorize them and install them to fix these issues.

I had been sick ahead of Katrina, so spent the storm huddled in a blanket on the couch and mostly screaming at the TV (and B*sh / Heckuva job Brownie / Cheney / Halliburton) for days. When Honore came onto the scene with his competence and actual commitment to help, it was a welcome relief even for me, who was safely ~1000 miles from the devastation hitting New Orleans.

Trump has succeeded in dismantling the structures of our government because he doesn't see their utility, either out of intention or idiocy. One of our largest metros is underwater and our so-called Commander in Chief is bloviating on tax cuts today...the same guy that proposed massive cuts to FEMA to support his dumb ass wall. Congrats GOP, you did this!

I noticed that particular boast--absurd on its face--he can't speak the truth no matter the circumstance.

Disgusting. As time passes fewer and fewer people will believe what he says. Of course, anyone with two brain cells to rub together knew long ago that he lies compulsively.

The media should never let him off the hook over his lying instead of falling all over themselves trying to convince us that he's acting presidential. Well, I can dream, can't I?

They covered him like a legitimate candidate even long after everyone with a brain and the ability to fog a mirror knew he was a carnival barker of the lowest sort selling bullshit by the 55-gallon drum.

They NEVER made him own his lies, EVER. As a result, we have 45...an unqualified, disinterested, bigoted asshat with an allergy to facts and truth and an addiction to self-adulation and attention more suitable to a pre-teen girl crushing on a boy band than on a 71 year old man.

more time than they actually had to evacuate.

https://www.democraticunderground.com/10029521532

It had to be done in stages to avoid gridlock. Gridlock that in this situation might have led to countless people drowning on the highways.

By the time Abbott mentioned people should consider evacuation, it was already past the time when they would have had to start that staged evacuation.

I thought "Finally"! WTF! This is crazy.

He was on Anderson Cooper following that assault and was apparently told to tone it down. He was much calmer and less critical.

This was a thing of beauty. I'm glad I saw it live because I can't stand Erin Brunnett and only kept watching because of him.
Bravo!
