Hank Aaron: Colin Kaepernick Is Getting a 'Raw Deal' From NFL Owners

Source: The Daily Beast

Baseball icon Hank Aaron said Colin Kaepernick is “getting a raw deal” from NFL team owners who are silently refusing to sign the ex-San Francisco 49ers quarterback because of his on-field protests during the national anthem over police brutality. In a Wednesday interview on The Tom Joyner Show, Aaron—the target of unprecedented volumes of hate-mail and bigotry during his 1970s quest to break Babe Ruth’s all-time home-run record—told interviewer Roland Martin that he wished someone at the ownership level would open up and give Kaepernick a chance. Aaron also said Kaepernick’s peers should be speaking out, too. “I’d love to see some other players stand up. I think it would help him,” he said. On the broadcast, Martin said Aaron, a Baltimore Ravens fan and now 83 years old, told him that he would not be watching the upcoming NFL season out of anger at how Kaepernick is being treated.

I'm not young and Ruth is history to me. Maybe because I was a kid when he broke the record, and I remember it specifically, but even so, Ruth is an abstract concept but Aaron is iconic.

They pulled Jay Cutler out of retirement rather than pick up Kaepernick after their starter got injured.

I'm boycotting the Dolphins this year.

I think he was actually pretty good last year, despite being on a horrible team. 16 tds and 4 ints. He's better than a lot of guys out there. Unfortunately, football has an overabundence of racist white conservative fans (and owners).

This is just a game. I am a long time fan. However the National Anthem should be played at more serious venus. Can you picture it being played before Roller Derby or Pro Rasslin? Stop using the anthem to appeal to some fans. Stop it!

and I've BEEN to a roller derby.

Regardless, it was a lot of fun. A friend/co-worker was on the team and she said her favorite part of the week is getting to smash into people. Which is funny because during the week she was a low-level manager in customer service. Which I guess does explain why she had some aggression to get out on the weekends.
