Trump: GOP 'wasting time' if they don't get rid of filibuster

Source: The Hill

BY REBECCA SAVRANSKY - 08/23/17 10:11 AM EDT

President Trump on Wednesday called for Senate Republicans to get rid of the legislative filibuster.

"If Republican Senate doesn't get rid of the Filibuster Rule & go to a simple majority, which the Dems would do, they are just wasting time!" Trump tweeted Wednesday.

It's just the latest example of Trump calling for Senate Republicans to get rid of the filibuster, something that has irritated Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.)
Last month, Trump specifically called out McConnell and pushed the GOP leader to end the filibuster and move toward passing legislation with a 51-vote majority.

“Republican Senate must get rid of 60 vote NOW! It is killing the R Party, allows 8 Dems to control country. 200 Bills sit in Senate. A JOKE!” Trump tweeted last month.

Why don't they just disband Congress and let Trump run it by himself?

Of course Trump will need a snappy uniform with lots of medals and a Big Hat.

He also wants to shut down the judiciary. Face it, he wants to be dictator for life and have no restraints on what he gives to Russia or himself. He's already proven to be a fascist, next he and Putin wants all the controls removed and Heil Trump to be the official greeting.

Things you must believe if you want to be a deplorable:

"The Democrats WOULD be authoritarians if they could."

"The Jews/Blacks/Latinos WOULD wipe us out if they could."

"Trump WOULD keep his campaign-promises but the Deep State and the military-industrial complex have turned him into their puppet."

"Hillary Clinton WOULD be a horrible President if she had won the election."

And after Trump has left office: "Why are you complaining about Trump? Hillary Clinton WOULD HAVE BEEN even worse as a President!"

But not the 180 year history of the filibuster? First used in 1837, it predates by more than 20 years the Civil War that is being honored by statues mostly erected from 1910 - 1930.

So do we honor history or is it mere expediency for Trump to pander to his alt-right base?

Talking and chewing gum is a challenge for them, but logic is considered "elitist" and looked down on.

will be left with TWO House of Representatives as far as how legislation is passed. The filibuster is there to encourage compromise and to filter out bills that favor a simple majority, which usually promote the goals of that majority.

In fact. some here were calling for it. But the dems wisely refrained. I don't think Mitch will do it, they will lose the majority at some point.

Turtle is paying him no mind. He knows the "problem" is not Democrats but his own 52 Republicans, where they couldn't muster a majority even using a 50-vote threshold (with Pence as a tie-breaker).

to eliminate the filibuster, but didn't. They controlled the Senate 56 out of the last 100 years.
