BEIJING China demanded the United States immediately withdraw a package of sanctions on companies and individuals trading with North Korea on Wednesday, and said the decision by the Trump administration will damage Sino-U.S. ties.
The Treasury Department placed sanctions Tuesday on 10 companies and six individuals from China and Russia that it said had conducted business with North Korea in ways that advanced the countrys missile and nuclear weapons program.
But Chinas Foreign Ministry insisted its government had fully implemented U.N. Security Council resolutions on North Korea, and would punish anyone caught violating the Security Council sanctions under Chinese law.
It added that it opposed sanctions outside the framework of the Security Council.

(4,373 posts)May have hit a nerve there. Those business
ties may be whats keeping China from
getting really nasty...having to deal with a
demented usa president. They could become
less accommodating and start blocking shipping lanes,
go after the nuke subs cheetos mentioned
were in the vicinity of N. Korea.

Trump didn't decide this one on his own. There are folks in the Treasury Department that probably made the recommendation and he just rubber stamped it without comprehending it.
China needs to put some teeth in their commitments to the UN or others will try to force them to live up to their commitments.
