Donald Trump hints he might pardon Joe Arpaio at Phoenix rally
Source: CNN
Phoenix (CNN)President Donald Trump hinted Tuesday he could pardon Joe Arpaio, the controversial former Maricopa County sheriff, amid reports the President is planning to pardon him for his conviction on criminal contempt charges.
"Do the people in this room like Sheriff Joe?" he said to cheers at his Phoenix rally.
"So was Sheriff Joe convicted for doing his job? ... You know what, I'll make a prediction: I think he's going to be just fine, OK? But I won't do it tonight because I don't want to cause any controversy. But Sheriff Joe should feel good."
When asked on Air Force One earlier Tuesday about a would-be Arpaio pardon, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said no news would be made Tuesday.

I thought Huckabee said that no news would be made Tuesday. Yet, Trump brings up Arpaio.

(17,387 posts)I think the only thing that is holding it up is making sure that Joe Arpaio does not bitch about it, because a pardon wipes out the conviction while a commutation leaves the conviction intact but wipes out the punishment.

(59,503 posts)SHS likely said what she was told and Trump is a wild cannon. He did suggest that it was decided he not do it at the rally because it would be controversial, but I suspect his aides would not have wanted him to make yesterday's remarks.
But then I bet they did not want him to refight Charlottesville.

(1,570 posts)Racist Joe fits that bill and reassures his base after Bannon's departure.
After this he can pardon his family and anyone else who might testify against him in exchange for immunity.
