Protesters marching, breaking windows in downtown Oakland

Source: Oakland Tribune

A crowd of as many as 100 protesters marched through downtown Friday, breaking car windows and a window at Barack Obama's local campaign office.

... Police also confirmed that several car windows were broken. The protesters began organizing about 9 p.m. (PDT) and marched up Broadway.

If you are not into "fucking shit up",
then you are somehow "less than",
and politically somehow "inferior".

At same time, the message is also a raw willingness,
to throw their young alive bodies onto the gears and
wheels of death-dealing capitalism .. to stop it.

To stop the carnage, to topple this house of cards.
Feeling that this IS the only option left to them ..
to forget about their own personal sense of
safety and security, and just do the right thing.

All pretense goes out the window, everything becomes
very simple, which is merely to DO what our Founding Fathers,
implored that each and every US citizens should do,

RESIST ANY AND ALL FORMS OF AUTHORITARIANISM,
REGARDLESS OF CORPORATE AMERICA'S ALLURING & TRENDY GARB,
OR OUR FAUX "GOVERNMENT" PRETENDING TO REPRESENT REAL PEOPLE.

CORPORATIONS ARE NOT PEOPLE.
MONEY IS NOT FREE SPEACH.

"These protesters have not come to work within the system. They are not pleading with Congress for electoral reform. They know electoral politics is a farce and have found another way to be heard and exercise power. They have no faith, nor should they, in the political system or the two major political parties. They know the press will not amplify their voices, and so they created a press of their own. They know the economy serves the oligarchs, so they formed their own communal system. This movement is an effort to take our country back.

This is a goal the power elite cannot comprehend. They cannot envision a day when they will not be in charge of our lives. The elites believe, and seek to make us believe, that globalization and unfettered capitalism are natural law, some kind of permanent and eternal dynamic that can never be altered. What the elites fail to realize is that rebellion will not stop until the corporate state is extinguished.

It will not stop until there is an end to the corporate abuse of the poor, the working class, the elderly, the sick, children, those being slaughtered in our imperial wars and tortured in our black sites. It will not stop until foreclosures and bank repossessions stop. It will not stop until students no longer have to go into debt to be educated, and families no longer have to plunge into bankruptcy to pay medical bills. It will not stop until the corporate destruction of the ecosystem stops, and our relationships with each other and the planet are radically reconfigured.

And that is why the elites, and the rotted and degenerate system of corporate power they sustain, are in trouble. That is why they keep asking what the demands are." ~Chris Hedges, "Why the Elites Are in Trouble"

- Chris is so right, but Martin Luther King Jr. said it even more succinctly: ''A riot is the language of the unheard.''

Not the frustrated rioters who are simply responding in the ways they've been programmed by years of teevee and other BS propaganda -- but usually by the likes of some government (or quasi-government -- there's really not much difference between private and public when you get to this point) agency ensconced into this police state we affectionately call ''the land of the free.''

''When it gets down to having to use violence, then you are playing the system’s game. The establishment will irritate you – pull your beard, flick your face – to make you fight. Because once they’ve got you violent, then they know how to handle you. The only thing they don’t know how to handle is non-violence and humor.'' ~John Lennon

I have very mixed feelings about the Black Bloc.

I hate their tactics and think they totally miss the
mark... like stooping to the very tactics this
messed up society uses to repress movements like
Occupy.

At same time I know many of them are well
intentioned impressionable youth who are TOTALLY
alienated and pissed off and use it as a way to vent
those feelings, which is both immature and ineffective.

Another unfortunate fact is that the BB provides agent
provocateurs PERFECT cover for their nefarious
sabotage of otherwise peaceful movements like Occupy.

I'm thinking this "claim" of which you speak,
and at which you take such great umbrage..

I bet the claim was referring to the widely known and well
documented pattern of police using shadowy RW "law
enforcement" creeps (like Zimmerman) and/or other
dark side minions; to engage in a behavior known
as being an"Agent Provocateur" (AP), and creating
violence out of thin air
, by pushing others into a
police line, or throwing rocks at police, just to get
things rolling, so the cops can then "justifiably"
swarm innocent non-violent unarmed citizens,
and beat the living shit out of them, just because
they can, thanks to the "assistance" given by
the AP's, to ignite an already tense situation into a
violent one, where property is damaged and people
are hurt.

just a wild guess, mind you; but I suspect that what
I'm talking about here may have been what the offending
post was intended to address and to point out.

But since most of the cases you hear about ANY police action (brutality or not) occurs in cities with Democrat mayors, this would be one hell of a long game to cause negative associations between politics and the police...

hates Obama for what they perceive as his many betrayals of what we are supposed to believe are their issues, so why would a Democratic mayor mitigate any of that? S/he wouldn't, in fact, s/he would be a good surrogate for the President.

BTW, I suppose I should explain that I don't think what is calling itself "the Left" is necessarily the authentic Left; this election year has created some unusual bed-fellows, many of whom seem quite willing to hurt the disadvantaged and the poorest in the name of a perceived chance at political advantage, not a characteristic I would say of anyone really interested in economic and social justice. Not that those at the bottom cannot become part of the struggle, just that they need to choose their own sacrifices, not have them forced upon them by those with political ambitions.

"The Left" these days looks and sounds more socialist than what once used to be liberalism.

Even modern liberalism isn't what classical liberalism is.

I don't think they hate President Obama for "his failures", I honestly think it is because they were hoping for even more that falls in line with their belief system.

Sat Aug 4, 2012, 03:39 AM

perhaps you can understand some other's expectations in that regard.

There are after-all as many varieties and degrees of socialism as there are ways to articulate the assumption that the group/society OWES each of its individual members something, some real value, in exchange for the real value of their agreed participation and membership in the group/society.

Agreed about "Liberalism" and classic Liberals.

Oh, it is VERY definitely his failures that they are harping on. I have been a member here for a long time and I am a close observer, so I do know what I'm seeing.

"hoping for even more" than what? that you imply that they did receive on their agenda but wanted more? As far as what calls itself "the Left" is concerned they have received absolutely nothing on their agenda, so that's not "more" since it's nothing in the first place. If you're referring to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, you should recall that those mandated dollars are not a lot different from the 50+% of our tax dollars that go to the military for wars that many of us don't want - AND - provide profits to private enterprises in the process, just like the health care mandate provides profits, by law, to health care insurance companies. Private profits, nothing could be further from what is usually perceived to be a "socialist" agenda.

Many times, stuff is instigated by the more experienced, committed by the younger folks, and the ensuing violence (justified by the cops or not) gets recorded for use as agitprop.
