Walmarts chief executive issued a strong rebuke of President Trumps response to the protests that turned violent in Charlottesville, Va., saying the president missed a critical opportunity to help bring our country together.
The criticism came in a statement that the retailers chief executive, Doug McMillon, emailed to employees Monday evening, which was reviewed by The New York Times. The statement was later posted on a company website.
As we watched the events and the response from President Trump over the weekend, we too felt that he missed a critical opportunity to help bring our country together by unequivocally rejecting the appalling actions of white supremacists, he wrote.
Mr. McMillons statement came amid a swirl of backlash against the president for what critics viewed as a tepid initial response to violence at last weekends rally of white supremacists and right-wing extremists, which left one counterprotester dead. On Monday, the chief executives of Merck, Under Armour and Intel said that they would step down from a presidential advisory council for manufacturing on which they served.

(30,761 posts)I will stick with the local merchants, even if they cost a bit more. I have built so many friendships and relationships by doing this! That is more valuable than saving a few bucks.

(11,686 posts)but I refuse to give them much business and try local merchants as possible. I do buy one thing from Walmart each month. I get cat litter. Yes, it is the least expensive and I like the idea of something from Walmart getting shit on.

(11,686 posts)They just need to make it so they look good. The reason they are not saying anything in his defense is because the MOFO's voted for trump!! They are all for trump wanting to take workers rights away saying that they already work the fine line of treating workers as unfairly as possible without breaking the law. They want as many regulations for workers rights taken away as possible to make more money that they really do not need. Walmart is just as evil as our president. If I was actually to say I might hold hate for anything or anyone it would be both Walmart and trump. I know how Walmart works from personal experiences and from watching how they have treated people who are good friends and people who are acquaintances.

Why would Walmart be represented on a manufacturing council?
Retailing isn't manufacturing.
DesertRat
(27,995 posts)It seems like he wants it both ways, just like the GOP.

(65,168 posts)I still don't know what input they could possibly have on a manufacturing council. They don't actually make anything, they just sell stuff other people make. Like any other retailer.
ProfessorGAC
(65,168 posts)Not on the manufacturing council but economic board. I saw, in another thread, of listing of the MFG board. Walmart was not on that list.
We were talking about two different lists. That's how we went sideways.

They were getting torches for their Friday night hate parade.

(22,651 posts)would have been a bunch or rag-tag random hate groups marching around in the dark, but nooo someone bought & organized 1,000 torches to hand out free to that crowd.

(17,483 posts)Many were bought at the local Walmart in my link by the marchers. Others brought them with them. The KKK bought them there for their rally a few weeks ago.

(22,651 posts)Republican's should have told trump they prefer American corps use prison slaves in factories, fishfarms & fire fighting.
Because slaves are paid 20 cents an hour. The 'for profit' prison stocks do much better with the kickbacks from corporations and the 24k a year(taxpayer$$) the states pay 'for profit' prison per prison 'bed'.
trumps soo unfit.
