Americas neo-Nazis are raising money, planning more rallies

WASHINGTON
White supremacists say they are just warming up.
Violence at a neo-Nazi rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, this weekend served as only the latest data point on a dramatically escalating trendline of hate-group activity.
White supremacists picked up the pace in 2008, after the election of the first African American president, and again this year as white-power groups saw Donald Trumps win as an opportunity to move from the fringes toward the near mainstream of political discourse.

Already, white supremacist groups have promised more rallies in more cities and have begun raising money to pay for the legal defense costs associated with charges that might come out of the Charlottesville violence.

(23,138 posts)Are they going to stand by their white hater brethren and let them hurt counter-protestors and do nothing, like happened this weekend? Or will the police come out in force and make sure the Nazis can't get out of their lane and attack anyone? Were the white nationalists successful in infiltrating the police forces nation wide? We'll see what happens if the Nazis and KKK get permits.

(12,667 posts)Police aren't going to risk open warfare on the streets. It's one thing when it's a dozen robbing a bank with semi-automatics, it's another if there's a hundred or so Nazis dressed and armed up like they're getting ready to storm downtown Mosul to sweep for IS.
All that National Guard armory crap the DoD has been handing out to the police departments aren't really worth shit in hometown urban combat - where you want to preserve local infrastructure and businesses that are part of your neighborhood.
Armored vehicles and other heavy weaponry is only good for when you want to quickly blow the neighborhood up and let Gawd sort things out after you leave because you've got somewhere else to be.

(58,785 posts)in that crowd, including semiautomatic, a very serious tactical issue for the police, but no one was hurt by one of them. I certainly would tend to give credit for that to the authorities before I would the malignant bigots who brought them.

Think westboro on steroids.
It's really important we don't respond the way they want us to.

They are too stupid to know that what they do, in the day light, masks off, begs for repercussions. Their ancestors were smart enough to keep it in the dark, under a sheet, and in far-away places. These morons don't even have those wits.

(13,608 posts)There was a series of stories a couple of weeks ago about how Putin and his various associates/oligarchs are funneling money to such right-wing groups not only here but in Europe as well. At least in Europe, they're talking about it and trying to do something about it. Here, though, not so much (or at all) for obvious reasons.
Another interesting aspect to this is that this Russian money is also flowing into the campaigns of Mitch McConnell, Paul Ryan, Scott Walker and other GOP figures.

America fought a war against the Nazis and supposedly won.
Yet here they are marching to "take back America".
" Michael Von Kotch, a Pennsylvania resident who called himself a Nazi, said the rally made him "proud to be white."
He said that he's long held white supremacist views and that Trump's election has "emboldened" him and the members of his own Nazi group. "
