Pence: 'Extremist Voices' On 'Far Right' And 'Far Left' Will Be 'Marginalized'
Source: Talking Points Memo

Vice President Mike Pence said Monday President Donald Trump will continue to be clear in condemning white supremacist hate groups even though the President himself has not actually done so in the wake of a white supremacist terrorist attack during a hectic rally in Charlottesville, Virginia that left one counter-protester dead.
Pence also echoed Trumps language that many sides of the white supremacist rally were worth condemning. Pence said he believed were going to see these extremist voices on the far right and on the far left marginalized as they should be as Americans come together around our shared values.
In an interview with Pence Monday, NBCs Peter Alexander asked: Do you have any concern, even if its not the Presidents intention, that he, in fact, by not condemning white supremacists by their names, is dividing Americans?
Peter, we talked about that very extensively yesterday, Pence responded. The President made it very clear in his statement this weekend that we condemn all forms of hate and violence, and particularly condemn, as we did yesterday we condemned the hate and the violence and the bigotry of organizations that showed up in Charlottesville like the KKK and white supremacists.

(37,648 posts)I'm getting tired of this false equivalency, too.
The KKK and the Nazis are more than extremists. The Freedom Caucus in Congress - that's an example of an extremist group. The KKK and the Nazis are groups that started in large part for the purpose of KILLING GROUPS OF PEOPLE they thought didn't have a right to live.

(33,360 posts)The Unabomber? Black Bloc? Antifa?
None of those organizations have any power or representatives in Government.
the furthest left pol I know of is Seattle City Council Member Kshama Sawant.
While the extreme right is catered to by the entire GOP.
Fuck this equivalency.

(37,648 posts)I'm getting tired of this. The Freedom Caucus in Congress is an extreme political group.
The KKK got its start LYNCHING PEOPLE. The Nazis are most famous for KILLING MILLIONS OF JEWS. They are not political groups, extreme or otherwise.
The left has Black Lives Matter, and one other group whose name I forget right now. There is no comparison between those and these domestic terrorist groups.
The Unabomber was a lone wolf, following no group. He was also mentally unhinged.

(14,175 posts)I would not say they (or many) would even define themselves as "left". I'd gather that many members and supporters of BLM are not necessarily fans of Bernie Sanders and the left wing of the Democratic Party. BLM seemed to be led by those that wanted to take to task Democrats as well as Republicans. That it was more of a specific focus on fighting racism by authorities against African Americans, and they didn't want to cloud it with any grander themes like economic and social justice for everyone, or tether themselves to one particular party. Which I get.

Even though the GOP and Fox News likes to frame them as lefties in order to demonize them. Ideally BLM should identify as a non partisan group anyways. Racism should be a issue that crosses party lines. ....should at least. There are after all, many (some?) "moderate" Republicans, fiscal conservative but socially liberal, that still were disturbed by that rash of police murders of young black men that gave birth to BLM.

(37,648 posts)anything having to do with pro-minority would ipso facto, to them, be "left." Me...I don't know. I just made that assumption.
Thanks for the info.

(8,758 posts)Clue me in. What on the Left compares to racism and fascism? Hippies living in a commune?
Right wingers always look to false equivalency for cover when their racist base is exposed.
Nope. Right-wing asshats own all of this. The Left doesn't have shit to do with it except show up louder and in bigger numbers whenever nazi fuck heads come out to play.

Exactly the same.
This young mans sister wrote to me here when I posted this before for some other reason. I have looked all over through all my many years of saved posts and mails but have not been able to find it again.
This was 1967 and was the beginning of Flower Power. The National Guard is featured here but from what I saw this weekend they were not nearly as well armed then as the regular militia groups are now.
Yes, just like we always were. Both sides are the same. It was different then but still the same as now. Both sides were to blame for the violence and hatred.
