Heather Heyer Murdered While Protesting Against Hate In Charlottesville
Source: Huffington Post
If youre not outraged, youre not paying attention, read Heyer's last public post on Facebook.
The woman who was killed in Charlottesville, Virginia, on Saturday when a car plowed into a group of anti-racist demonstrators was murdered while protesting against hate, says a GoFundMe page set up by a family friend.
Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) confirmed her identity as Heather Heyer, 32, a paralegal who lived in Charlottesville. The GoFundMe page quotes Heyers mother as saying her daughter died doing what was right. My heart is broken, but I am forever proud of her.
As of late Sunday morning, more than $80,000 had been been pledged to the GoFundMe campaign. According to the page, Heyer was a graduate of Willam Monroe High School in Stanardsville, located about 25 miles north of Charlottesville

Pigeons ya know.

(34,137 posts)I wouldn't want a statue of a single individual but make an inclusive monument to people who fight for freedom - maybe similar to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall so that names can be added. I'm sure Heather Heyer will not be the last person to lose their life in the fight for freedom and equality.

What is the Origin of the Term Wobbly?
We get asked that question a lot. The short answer is, we don't actually know, but we have compiled some research that suggests at least four popular theories of the term's origin:
Theory #1 - "Eye Wobble Wobble"
Theory #2 - "The Wobble Saw"
Theory #3 - "Wobbling the Works" (a Code for "Sabotage"
Theory #4 - "Wobbly" As a Pejorative Slur by the Employing Class
Each theory is considered and discussed in detail, but the conclusion is that there is little hard, factual evidence to support any of these theories, and no better theory exists.
There may be other theories still, and some are discussed in various books (in particular, the late Archie Green's Wobblies, Pile Butts, and Other Heroes: Laborlore Explorations, Urbana: University of Illinois Press, 1993), but none are any more conclusive than these we have offered here.
All of our research has shown so far that the origin of the term Wobbly cannot be determined, and so we have to unfortunately admit that we don't honestly know the answer. Though the true origin of the epithet "Wobbly" remains a mystery, most of us IWW members gladly use it to describe ourselves, because the term has become an integral part of the IWW's history and culture.

I know if and when one of the Neo Nazis is killed he will immediately tweet his support for the victim and their families.

I was so touched by that. BTW it's now 165,500 as of now.

(47,533 posts)what is the purpose of these funds raised by GoFundMe?
Often they are to support family members of someone who was murdered or, as we've seen on these pages, for family member of a DUer who ended up destitute.
Don't scold me, please, I just want to know.
Thanks
