A skin graft to mend an injured bald eagle went well Friday and the bird eventually could be released into the wild, a surgeon said.
Everything went very smoothly, said Dr. Coleen Stice, an Omaha plastic surgeon and member of the team that performed the surgery.
The skin graft was done at the Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium, and Stice and zoo veterinarian Dr. Trenton Shrader spoke at a press conference afterward.
The bird was found with a scab-like mark on its head this spring near Syracuse, Nebraska, and was taken to Fontenelle Forests Rehabilitation Center near Elmwood.
