Ricketts: Ex-State Patrol head interfered with internal investigations, failed to respond adequately

LINCOLN – Former Nebraska State Patrol superintendent Brad Rice went around internal policies and procedures to interfere in four internal investigations cases and also failed to adequately respond to an allegation of workplace harassment, Gov. Pete Ricketts said Thursday.

In addition, the governor said the patrol on at least a dozen occasions over the years failed to report to the state crime commission alleged trooper misconduct that should have led to review of the troopers’ law enforcement licenses.

On Thursday, Ricketts released a 15-page report detailing the results of an internal review of the patrol he had asked the state’s chief personnel officer to perform in June.

“I don’t think the colonel (Rice) displayed the leadership he ought to have,” Ricketts said. “That’s why I asked him to leave the state patrol.”
