The actor Robert Hardy, star of TV series All Creatures Great and Small, has died aged 91, his family has said.

He was also known for numerous portrayals of Winston Churchill.
In more recent years, he appeared as Cornelius Fudge, The Minister for Magic, in four of the Harry Potter films.
His children Emma, Justine and Paul said in a statement: "Dad is also remembered as a meticulous linguist, a fine artist, a lover of music and a champion of literature, as well a highly respected historian, and a leading specialist on the longbow.

(10,014 posts)I'm always surprised when he pops up in an old movie and he's a young man and then, there he is in Harry Potter. Harry Potter introduced many young people to some of Britain's finest and most enduring actors. He was one of them.

Somewhere, years ago, I had a hardcover omnibus copy of the three books that contained all kinds of extra boxes describing life in Yorkshire. It had a recipe for Yorkshire Pudding that I still use.
