Senate Democrats say 'no' to cuts for rich in GOP tax plan

Source: ABC News

Most Senate Democrats and independents said Tuesday that upcoming legislation to rewrite the tax code should make sure the middle class doesn't pay more.

They won't support any upcoming GOP effort to overhaul the U.S. tax code that delivers tax cuts to "the top 1 percent" or adds to the government's $20 trillion debt.

That's the word in a letter signed by 45 of the 48 Senate Democratic caucus members. Republicans controlling Congress are gearing up to advance their tax measure this fall, promising to lower rates on businesses and individuals, while clearing out many tax breaks and deductions.

The letter says that Democrats hope to work with Republicans to promote investment and modernize the outdated tax code, but the terms laid out by Democrats are unlikely to tempt Republicans, who are planning to use a filibuster-proof Senate procedure to advance the legislation without their help.

Dems for not working with Repubs.

I wonder if they will get rid of home interest deduction and taxes paid deduction.

That is how they will raise taxes on the working class while lowering the top tax rate.

I hope we march in the streets again like we did health care

Three Democrats from states easily carried by President Donald Trump — Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Joe Donnelly of Indiana, and Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota — did not sign the letter. All three are up for re-election.

Howsa' about you ensure candidates are pro-choice, believe in a owman's right to choice and they get medical attention. Howsa' 'bout they recruit more women and people of color? How about the DCCC infuse funds into even the "small" districts so the Democratic message get out rather than leaving the "red" districts out in the cold. The DCCC has so dropped in the past 10 years that they are becoming a hinderance rather than playing favorites.

that the voters in the states of those three senators are so brainwashed that they would criticize a senator for NOT supporting a tax giveaway to the wealthy.

Faux and flush have done their job.

Between the individually wealthy and the corporations - they can't be collectively paying more than 10% regardless of which tax category they are in.

The top 1% doesn't need any tax cuts at all. Rich people in the US pay less than anywhere else in the world. Those poor rich people just don't need the help. SMDH!!!!!
