Study: Cruz amendment would increase premiums by 39 percent for ObamaCare compliant plans

Source: The Hill

An amendment to the GOP's health bill could lead to higher premiums for sick people and lower premiums for healthy people, a new analysis released Tuesday shows.

Sen. Ted Cruz's "Consumer Freedom Amendment" would allow insurers to sell plans that don't comply with ObamaCare regulations, as long as they also sell plans that do meet these requirements.

High-risk, sicker individuals would likely buy the plans that comply with ObamaCare regulations while younger, healthier people would likely choose to purchase plans that don't, according to a study by Avalere Health, a healthcare consulting firm.

Premiums for these ObamaCare compliant plans could be 39 percent higher compared to current law by 2022 while premiums for non-compliant plans could drop by 77 percent.

good plans reserved for the wealthy only - for whom spending a extra thou here or there means nothing, rather than it being a mater of life or death for those of us less "fortunate".

NO.

They will quickly make the "junk" plans the same price as the current "cadillac" plans and then increase the cost for everything else accordingly until no one but the very wealthy can afford the premiums.

And that is because what the GOP wants is "free market" which = "free to charge whatever the hell they want".
