Trump ally and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani swatted away rumors that he was being considered to replace Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Monday, and contradicted the President by saying Sessions was right to recuse himself from matters related to the 2016 campaign and Russian meddling therein.
Sessions, Giuliani told CNN, made the right decision under the rules of the Justice Department.
Sessions recused himself in March after it was revealed he met multiple times with Russias ambassador to the United States during the 2016 campaign, despite denying meeting with any Russians during his confirmation hearing, in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
The Washington Post reported Friday, citing unnamed current and former U.S. officials, that Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak told his superiors that he and Sessions discussed matters related to the Trump campaign, despite Sessions past denials of doing so.

(11,989 posts)I wouldn't be surprised if he wants no part of this administration's sh*t-show, and counts himself lucky for not having been made a part of it. And/or he has no desire to face questioning under a Senate confrimation process.

(32,639 posts)... in Rudy Giuliani in years. I really thought he was mentally checked out.
Besides that we all know he's into the Russians up to his eyeballs, probably even more than Sessions ever was.

(844 posts)It's pretty clear Trump wants a yes man who won't recuse in as new AG - yet Rudy would be in the same spot in likely having to recuse and this statement throws it more into doubt. So, who would be candidate the Congress would confirm ?
Might Repubicans let Ted Cruz through just to be rid of him in the legislature?
