Angry conservatives promise primary challenges.

The anger commenced not long after Tuesdays collapse of the Senate GOP bill to replace Obamacare. The Senate Conservatives Fund promised to identify, recruit, and fund conservative challengers to GOP lawmakers who vote against a clean repeal.
Its no empty threat in a Republican Party thats seen a handful of incumbents defeated or nearly defeated in primaries in recent years.
Senior GOP officials spent much of Tuesday surveying the anger and frustration within their own party and taking calls from bitterly disappointed contributors, some of whom threatened to turn off the cash spigot. Senators who refused to support the bill, the party officials predicted, would see their fundraising take an immediate hit.
Texas businessman Doug Deason, a backer of President Donald Trump, said he and other major GOP donors were warming to the idea of funding primary challenges to senators who had opposed the health care bill. There was growing frustration over the failure to advance the presidents agenda, said Deason, the son of billionaire Darwin Deason. In a text message referring to three senators Susan Collins, Jeff Flake and Shelley Moore Capito Deason ripped the spineless Republican members from Maine, Arizona and West Virginia who seem to believe that Obamacare is actually succeeding.

(13,920 posts)Between that and it not passing, so the negatives not getting to be proven in real life, they will back off of all the specifics and fall back on general dislike of obamacare among their constituents. Most will wriggle out from taking any personal responsibility.

(38,439 posts)A whole lot of republicans benefit from ACA..and most of us know it. Voting for may actually help when someone is in a primary..even a republican primary. The idea of saving a persons total belongings, his/her home, savings, etc. may be more important in a primary...with real voters..than idea about keeping the government out of a particular field. ............even a republican primary..............
The rich assholes who come in from outside with money will find it would be more wise to throw it into the ocean...

(37,648 posts)with repeal and with replace. Collins said her big problem with repeal & no replace is that there have been no hearings, no debates, on HOW this would affect the citizens. She needs to know what effect it will have on the people in her state. That's a reasonable position.
But this threat may work. Won't work w/Collins, I think, because she is so popular and rumored may run for Governor, nor Senate, next time.
The fact that Heller is not saying he'll vote no may mean he's caving under immense pressure.

(24,333 posts)Judging by the whining and crying and threats from the soulless il douchebag supporters -- and everyone knew it would come, it is anything but spineless
Unless you consider listening to their constituents instead of a bunch of billionaire jackasses to be spineless

(14,586 posts)The people who primary them, funded by freaks like Deason, are NOT Republicans. They are radical libertarians. They don't care if any of us live or die; their issue is they don't want to pay taxes for ANYTHING but national 'defense.' They don't want 'job killin' regulashuns.' They don't want democracy, and would much rather groups like AARP, ACLU, and others be regulated and legislated out of existence so that the American people enjoy NO collective input into the democratic process. They want voter suppression and privatization.
Basically a return to unrestrained, unregulated capitalism.
If you want to know what a shit-show THAT will be, read Jack London's People of the Abyss, or any book by Dickens.
A good book now, about what a total treasonous dirt-bag Charles Koch actually IS: Democracy in Chains: The Deep History of the Radical Right's Stealth Plan for America.
It is a very good book, well researched, and no, you won't need a tinfoil hat - this is truth gleaned from source documents.
These people are fucking TRAITORS that want to tear down everything this nation stands for. So fuck 'em. Let 'em primary each other, and let's talk coherently and forcefully about kitchen table issues:
Fear of layoff.
Making ends meet.
Fear of losing healthcare. (remember, Medicare for all Americans polls far better than 'single payer,' so use that verbiage)
High cost of college for kids
A K-12 system we can be proud of
Good roads
Clean water
Clean air
Do this and you'll get the independent vote, and we'll begin winning elections.

(4,903 posts)I'm reading this right now too, and highly recommend. Provides deep look into what the Rethugs are doing, and why they are doing it. They are not libertarians. They are Totalitarian Capitalists and will destroy the planet, and our lives if we don't figure out how to get them out of the government.
We need to be thinking long-term how to save democracy from them.
