KANSAS FACES SKEPTICAL STATE SUPREME COURT ON SCHOOL FUNDING

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) -- Attorneys for Kansas will try to convince an often skeptical state Supreme Court on Tuesday that the funding increase legislators approved for public schools this year is enough to provide a suitable education for kids statewide.

The high court is hearing arguments about a new law that phases in a $293 million increase in education funding over two years. The justices ruled in March that the $4 billion a year in aid the state then provided to its 286 school districts was inadequate, the latest in a string of decisions favoring four school districts that sued Kansas in 2010.

The state argues that the increase is sizable and that new dollars are targeted toward helping the under-performing students identified as a particular concern in the court's last decision.

But lawyers for the Dodge City, Hutchinson, Wichita and Kansas City, Kansas, school districts argue that lawmakers fell at least $600 million short of adequately funding schools over two years. They also question whether the state can sustain the spending promised by the new law, even with an income tax increase enacted this year.

No only does an ignorant populace not have the thinking skills to challenge authority, they have no skills to seek a better job or lot in life than the one those in power give them. It's a win-win for Kobach, the Koch's and the GOP.

That's why hard liner Republicans were tossed out last election for moderate Repubs and Dems gained some seats. The majority of Kansans have been griping hard about this State going broke over the last two years since that zero tax rate for Corporations was put in effect in Jan 2013.

It's now been overturned so the coffers will slowly fill as EVERYONE pays taxes, not just us poor SOB's that Brownback wanted. But...it will take at least 2-3 years to turn the DAMAGE around as it usually does when you start cleaning up Republican DISASTERS.

At least Kansas is back on the right track and with this tax turnaround and Senator Moran saying he won't vote for this latest BS version of healthcare the Koch's heads must be exploding. After all, they PAID good money to own those people.

It must be tough at times to live in such a red state where the full GOP experiment was tried and failed - again.
