Japan and Europe counter Trump with colossal trade deal
Source: Washington Post
Thirty years ago, as Donald Trump gave what is widely considered to be the first campaign speech of his career, he criticized one country above all for cheating the United States in trade: Japan.
On Thursday, Japan took on the mantle of the global rules-based trading system, as it sidestepped a failing trade agreement with the United States to forge a historic new pact with the European Union.
Leaders from Japan and the European Union on Thursday announced their agreement on the broad strokes of a trade deal that will cover nearly 30 percent of the global economy, 10 percent of the world's population and 40 percent of global trade.

Despite what a colluding asshole Pence is we can still keep him in a box by retaking the Congress. If and only if we push them into a corner and make it happen.

(55,445 posts)By (including but not limited to): Assange, Greenwald, Snowden, Trump, and legions of useful idiot leftbro pundits and bloggers because NEOLIBERALISM! SECRECY! and GLOBALIZATION! or something... And I took a higher-than-expected level of shit from DUers for daring to point out that Assange clearly had ulterior motives to kill some trade deal that wouldn't even effect him personally, that killing a trade deal on "human rights" issues seemed counter-intuitive since it would just strengthen the positions of Russia and China, AND that the other countries involved were just going to move on without us... Assange especially has to be laughing his goddamn ass off -- TWO colossal con jobs in 2016 which have literally changed the course of history for the worse, and even with no credibility remaining (and despite being an unabashed hero of the far right these days) all he has to do is play his tune and the left dances at his altar of "transparency"
