Calling for a revolution!: Trump fans triggered after NPR tweets out the Declaration of Independ

Source: Raw Story

For 29 years, National Public Radio’s “Morning Edition” has celebrated the Fourth of July with a reading the Declaration of Independence by hosts, reporters, newscasters and commentators.

This historically uncontroversial testament to the nation’s founding document proved uncontroversial-no-more in the year 2017.

After NPR tweeted the Declaration line by line, Donald Trump backers–seemingly unaware of the source document–accused NPR of playing partisan politics.

“So, NPR is calling for a revolution,” Twitter user @JustEsrafel wrote.

That's how we have gotten where we are now! Generations of ignorance breed future generations of more ignorarance.

How about they just go back to requiring that you take and pass a Civics class in order to graduate from High School?

Back in the time when dinosaurs ruled the earth and I was in high school we were required to take a Civics class. We actually knew about how the branches of government were supposed to work, we knew how many senators and representatives were in congress, we even knew the names of our senators, representative, and all our state and local elected officials. That sort of unimportant information no longer seems to be taught to our young people.

In the era of teach to test, how about testing knowledge at the level of the citizenship exam? Introducing it as having to pass the exam to get a diploma should make for some spectacular fireworks and political gymnastics.

The problem being their state lege's definitions of "knowledge".

My sibling teaches history/social studies/poli sci at the high school level. Sib is pretty good about refining the state lege's bullshit back into useable knowledge, but it can be painful.

Don't get me wrong; if it's legit, then Trump supporters are even more stupid than we could possibly have thought of them.

But Raw Story isn't my go-to source for authentic news.

I read the Twitter thread myself earlier today.

However, and this is a BIG however, I do have to give that guy @JustEsrafel some credit. After the very first person pointed out his stupidity, the guy totally owned it and was very apologetic. Even though people told him to remove the Tweet to save himself the embarrassment, he said he was leaving it so hopefully others will learn that they should actually read something all the way through before jumping to a conclusion. It was a big Kumbaya moment for a thru and true Trump supporter who has a completely different view of the left now because he learned to dialog with people instead of being an idiot..

I wish Raw Story had included THAT in their article for @JustEsrafel's sake.

Recently I heard one Trump supporter encouraged by another claiming Democrats are still feeling heat from opponents to Obama care and that the Republican version is being met with wide spread support. He quoted a weekly hometown paper neither have internet or watch cable news.

...I remember back in the 60s, at the height of the polarization, people would go out and read from the Declaration, and all the usual idiots would scream at them and accuse them of treason and fomenting revolution. Surveys showed a healthy majority of the people couldn't recognize the Declaration when they heard it...

...protect the whole population -- a critical mass. Seems to me that civics and history education is rather like that. The culture can support only so many willfully ignorant people before democracy becomes unsustainable.

Years ago I recall seeing one of those "man in the street" scenarios where a reporter stopped random people, read passages from the less well-known parts of the Declaration and asked if they would be willing to sign it. The surprisingly often offered response was along the lines of "that's too radical", not "hey, that's the Declaration of Independence".

I graduated during the Bicentennial and I remember being able to sign your name a book under a copy of the Declaration of Independence.
