Carrier workers facing layoffs feel betrayed by Trump

Source: CBS News

INDIANAPOLIS -- A promise made before Christmas is fizzling before the Fourth of July.

In December, then-President-elect Trump told hundreds of workers at the Carrier manufacturing plant that he had worked out a deal to save their jobs.

But it's not working out that way. A steady downpour today did little to wash away the fact that the jobs of 600 union employees are going south.

"They're going to Monterrey, Mexico," said Robert James, president of the local union. Reynolds said he felt betrayed, since Mr. Trump told workers during his December visit to the plant that 1,100 jobs would be saved.

Trump does not really need to worry. Because in the world of Brietbart, Fox and Rush Limbaugh, all those jobs remained saved and the employees of Carrier remain thankful for Trump's intervention.

Everybody is closing stores and losing jobs as technology replaces more workers. I have had to re-educate and earn two degrees and complete years and years of internships as an adult when tech replaced my former careers. I spent my own time, energy and money to do it over and over as have many professionals I know. These tRump voters are the biggest crybabies and get the attention however. I have no sympathy. Wake up and face reality and do something about it. People who endured hell during the depression are rolling in their graves.

48. I knew those jobs were going to Mexico
Sun Jun 25, 2017, 10:56 PM
Jun 2017

The first news of the Carrier lay-off was in the news before Trump even won the primary. The reason given was the US workers were paid $33 an hour and they could get the same work done in Mexico for $6.00. Being an old pencil pushing accountant, I knew those jobs were bound for Mexico, no matter what Trump said.

Watch what is going on in Arlington, Texas. GM has a plant there, the plant makes SUV and PU's. When Ann Richards was governor, GM announced plans to close the plant. Richards and Arlington officials went to Detroit and talked GM into keeping the plant open, At that time, it was the beginning of the SUV popularity. The plant tooled up and made SUV's and started running 32/7 shits to keep up with demand. This was a lucky move for Texas because of the SUV craze.

Now back behind that plant in Arlington, GM is building a huge 3 or 4 billion dollar plant that is going to stamp the metal bodies of cars and trucks. This is now done in Indonesia. GM has been working on this plant for at least 3 years. GM is buying up all the land in that area. Arlington is working on the streets around the GM plant getting ready for heavy truck traffic.

This is a big deal for Texas and most people don't even know about it. But I feel that Trump will try to take credit for bringing the work back to US, if so don't believe it, this has been in the works for 4 or 5 years.
