Macron's party set for parliamentary majority, polls show
Source: BBC
French President Emmanuel Macron's party is on track for a parliamentary majority, exit polls suggest, weeks after his presidential victory.
Two polls have his La République en Marche, alongside its MoDem allies, winning between 355 and 425 seats in the 577-seat National Assembly.
The winning margin is lower than some expected with turnout down from 2012.

The result, if confirmed, sweeps all of the mainstream parties aside, and gives the 39-year-old president a strong mandate in parliament to pursue his pro-EU, business-friendly reform plans.

On economic issues, Macron is basically Sarkozy on meth.

He's expected to get about 300. The National Front has 8. The centre-right Republicans are the main opposition, currently on 109.
Very low turnout - just 44%.

(50,254 posts)the PS fell from 258 seats in 2012 to just 29(its allies took an additional 14 seats)
Having destroyed itself through its embrace of neoliberal austerity, the PS should probably do the decent thing and simply dissolve. It stand for nothing now and has no reason to exist.

(1,297 posts)But the majority seems smaller than what was being speculated about after the first round. And, as you noted, the turnout was poor. But hey, I'll take it!

(19,993 posts)I hear reports that he's got to tackle "labor reform" fast. Sounds like neoliberal predation on labor and government for the benefit of the wealthy and stock markets, but I don't really know much about the situation there.
Appears Macron's fledgling party got 360+ seats.
