Macron's party set for parliamentary majority, polls show

Source: BBC

French President Emmanuel Macron's party is on track for a parliamentary majority, exit polls suggest, weeks after his presidential victory.

Two polls have his La République en Marche, alongside its MoDem allies, winning between 355 and 425 seats in the 577-seat National Assembly.

The winning margin is lower than some expected with turnout down from 2012.
...
The result, if confirmed, sweeps all of the mainstream parties aside, and gives the 39-year-old president a strong mandate in parliament to pursue his pro-EU, business-friendly reform plans.

the days of Austerity are coming to a end. Next major European event will be Teresa May quitting as Britain's PM. The High Rise fire will be her undoing.

Worse, he wants to "reform" labor laws...i.e., to leave working people with next to no job security and next to no protections for their rights in the workplace.

On economic issues, Macron is basically Sarkozy on meth.

With Macron saying "Come to France" and Canada with its new "2 weeks and you are in Canada" visa program, I can see much of our top talent deciding to leave the US.

so he has reached the majority.

He's expected to get about 300. The National Front has 8. The centre-right Republicans are the main opposition, currently on 109.

Very low turnout - just 44%.

the PS fell from 258 seats in 2012 to just 29(its allies took an additional 14 seats)

Having destroyed itself through its embrace of neoliberal austerity, the PS should probably do the decent thing and simply dissolve. It stand for nothing now and has no reason to exist.

But the majority seems smaller than what was being speculated about after the first round. And, as you noted, the turnout was poor. But hey, I'll take it!

I hear reports that he's got to tackle "labor reform" fast. Sounds like neoliberal predation on labor and government for the benefit of the wealthy and stock markets, but I don't really know much about the situation there.

Appears Macron's fledgling party got 360+ seats.
