Rep. Steve Scalise's condition upgraded to 'serious'

Source: CNN

(CNN) Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise's condition has been upgraded to "serious" after he underwent surgery Saturday for injuries sustained in a shooting at a Republican congressional baseball practice earlier this week, the hospital treating him said in a release.

Scalise, the third-ranking GOP leader in the House, "continues to show signs of improvement," MedStar Washington Hospital Center said in a statement released on behalf of his family. "He is more responsive, and is speaking with his loved ones. The Scalise family greatly appreciates the outpouring of thoughts and prayers."

My nurse wife says "serious means they don't expect him to die."

He still has a long way to go, but is improving.

Multiple surgeries, weeks or more in intensive care and rehabilitation to follow.

That could run into the millions.

Thankfully for him and his family, Obamacare forbids the insurance company from cutting him off when treatment becomes too expensive.

Wondering if he had colon damage?...may have a colostomy.... maybe kidney damage or his Johnson? ...

Maybe he will have a Spiritual Awakening..... rethink his opportunity to make a difference and actually help people...?

I'd love to see positive growth from a life changing experience.

Who knows if he'll ever walk again? Or be able to control normal urinary and sexual functions? The bullet and the bone fragments were said to have damaged internal organs, we still don't know what that means for his long term recovery.

I do wish him all the best, no one deserves this.

I hope for his sake that the internal organ damage can also be repaired. We humans have an awful lot of stuff in the pelvic region, that is normally well protected, at least until we developed bullets.

With a normal bullet his injuries wouldn't be anything as serious as they are now.
Normal bullets create a path through the organs they penetrate as you imagine they would.

Scalise was hit with an assault rifle bullet designed for war which explodes inside the body creating a huge amount of damage.
They are specifically designed to increase the chances of killing the target.
That's why being hit in the hip became so serious. It probably liquified some of his organs.

It's insane that this kind of ammunition is available to anyone who wants it.
There is no legitimate reason for normal citizens to use this kind of bullet.

To argue that the 7.62 x39 is more deadly then the 7.62x54R is silly. The 7.62x54R FMJ round is quite capabable of dropping a grizzly bear. I wouldn't trust the 7.62x39, which the SKS fires, to do the same.

How much has Scalise been given by the NRA, for endorsing gun freedoms, destructibe bullets? Guess that is alright as long as it only affects taxpayers, not the "elite" in office.

Once he is in good health, I will wish to see him defeated by a Democrat; but that's in the future.
