Trump: Scalise 'May Have Brought Some Unity' To US Through 'Great Sacrifice'

Source: Talking Points Memo

By ESME CRIBB Published JUNE 15, 2017 11:42 AM

President Donald Trump on Thursday said he hopes House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) has “brought some unity” to the United States by making a “great sacrifice.” Scalise was shot on Wednesday when a gunman opened fire at a Republican congressional baseball practice.

“Steve in his own way may have brought some unity to our long-divided county,” Trump said in remarks at the White House before signing an executive order. “I have a feeling that Steve has made a great sacrifice, but there could be some unity being brought to our country. Let’s hope so.” He said Scalise is “in some trouble.”

“It’s been much more difficult than people even thought at the time,” Trump said. “But he’s a great fighter and he’s going to be OK, we hope.”

MedStar Washington Hospital Center on Wednesday said Scalise was shot in the hip and “will require additional operations.”

As I recall he did not get shot protecting anything...except the right to carry a gun where you wish?

How is standing on 2nd base and GETTING shot a sacrifice?

Sacrifice, noun sac·ri·fice ˈsa-krə-ˌfīs, also -fəs or -ˌfīz
something offered in sacrifice, to give up something FOR SOMETHING ELSE considered more important...

The batter sacrifices himself by hitting a ball high that is easy to catch but hangs in the air which gets him out but gives a runner time to make it home and score.

The batter does it willingly (or as directed by the coach), so it is a *sacrifice*.

If Scalise had dove in front of someone else to shield them, *that* would be a sacrifice.

Scalise was a *victim* of someone who didn't need to have a gun.

Sacrifice is also a baseball term. Maybe he's referring to something he did in the course of the game?

I know a lawyer who would charge $1,500 an hour for that explanation.

Amen to that. Just when I think he can't look any dumber, he proves me wrong. If we weren't in so much danger from this administration, I would be LMAO at him and his toadies.

The guy got shot practicing baseball not on a battlefield and not because he was throwing himself on top of a school teacher who was being shot in a mass shooting of unarmed babies in a suburban school.

I'm not minimizing his injuries or excusing this incident, but guys like Scalise and every fucking member of the GOP who have bowed down and scraped for the NRA have brought this on themselves. Every fucking GOP member who has supported ripping the neediest, most vulnerable people among us from live-sustaining medical care or food brought this on themselves. Every member of this godforsaken party who spewed venom and pitted people against each other for well over eight years brought this on themselves.

How could something like this N O T happen? You enact legislation throughout the country that allows any nutcase to walk into a gun shop or gun show and walk out with an assault weapon the same day and then tell him (or her) that it's perfectly fine to just walk around wherever they go with it or put it in their lap while the drive, or carry it onto and into a college classroom, and then after one of the same damn group of people who are directly responsible for the laxity of background checks and the flagrant, open carrying of guns in public get shot by a nut the exact way reasonable people said would happen because of the prevalence of nuts with guns allowed to openly carry them, well, damn it, these hypocrites probably deserve what happened and more. Sorry. You tend to reap what you sew. I'd have thought a good Bible-toting Repuke would be familiar with that.

So I don't want to hear a fucking word about so-called 'sacrifice'.

You know, the Pilllsbury Doughboy with the bleached weasel stuck to his head.

Same guy who brought us:

"I could shoot somebody and I wouldn't lose voters"

There are hundreds more divisive quotes I could put in here, but they're already in the DU posts over the last two years.
