Jeff Sessions personally asked Congress to let him prosecute medical marijuana providers

Source: Washington Post

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is asking congressional leaders to undo federal medical marijuana protections that have been in place since 2014, according to a May letter that became public Monday.

The protections, known as the Rohrabacher-Farr amendment, prohibit the Justice Department from using federal funds to prevent certain states "from implementing their own State laws that authorize the use, distribution, possession or cultivation of medical marijuana."

In his letter, first obtained by Tom Angell of Massroots.com and verified independently by The Washington Post, Sessions argued that the amendment would "inhibit [the Justice Department's] authority to enforce the Controlled Substances Act." He continues:

I believe it would be unwise for Congress to restrict the discretion of the Department to fund particular prosecutions, particularly in the midst of an historic drug epidemic and potentially long-term uptick in violent crime. The Department must be in a position to use all laws available to combat the transnational drug organizations and dangerous drug traffickers who threaten American lives.

That means that Republicans chair all the committees, which determine what gets discussed and voted on.

Trump gets to appoint the attorney general, so this is what we get.

Not sure who you think has the power to respond in any meaningful way.

Dana Rohrabacher (R-Calif.) said that "Mr. Sessions stands athwart an overwhelming majority of Americans and even, sadly, against veterans and other suffering Americans who we now know conclusively are helped dramatically by medical marijuana."

Sounds like a meaningful response to me...and you don't need power to have an opinion.

This is pure evil.

Medical marijuana is bringing comfort to many. The states that have it have lower rates of opioid addiction. There are some types of seizure disorders that respond only to cannabidiol (sp?). There are no equivalent medications. Some of these patients are young children.

There have been no documented issues of negative societal blow back in the states that have legalized medical marijuana.

You could safely argue that the blow back we have seen is international in scope and has been 80 years in the making. The world order has been deformed by the ineffectual War on Drugs. The U.S. has always been the leader in this "war"...putting great pressure on other countries to follow suit. Few have had the courage to not follow suit.

But Jeffrey Beauregard Sessions couldn't give a shit. The War on Drugs gives him a nice tool to lock up the minorities that he seems to hate so much.

This is evil.

This whole thing is yet another Drumpf admin lie and distraction from the real purpose. Sessions is doing this to increase the jail population, pure and simple. In Co., opioid arrests are way way down because people use mj for pain relief and don't need Oxycontin. Prisons are nearly empty and Sessions just can't have that! His biggest bribes (err donations) are from the private prison industry and he's definitely carrying water for them. He wants Americans in jail so he can rack up the big $$. He cares nothing about the people, wait, yes he does. He hates young people, brown people and this also gives him a pretext for arresting and jailing them and BTW keep them from voting. It's a 2fer for the dictatorship.

He speaks of a potential "long-term uptick in violent crime", and being able to "combat the transnational drug organizations and dangerous drug traffickers who threaten American lives" - apparently this IDIOT doesn't understand that these things happen BECAUSE a particular substance is illegal - there aren't any "transnational drug traffickers" involved in the legal marijuana markets in Colorado, California, etc.!

there actually is pot being grown as med and rec in legal states being exported to other states. that said, there are already enforceable laws in place to act against those found trafficking. Obama's directive was very clear, if you are following state laws, you are ok, if you are breaking state mj laws, you are now at risk of prosecution even if you claim to be operating as a legal provider under state law.

And now the lists of medical MJ users.
