A Task Force With Falwell Is Happening, White House Says
Source: The Chronicle of Higher Education
By Goldie Blumenstyk JUNE 11, 2017
WASHINGTON - Jerry L. Falwell Jr., the president of Liberty University, will be part of a White House task force, an official from the White House told The Chronicle on Sunday.
The news is the first official comment from the White House on the topic since Mr. Falwell told The Chronicle in January that President Trump and others in his inner circle had asked him to head up a task force on reforming regulations related to higher education. Even so, information on the task forces role, membership, purview, and timing is still scant.
"We are working on a task force that Jerry Falwell will be involved with," was all the official would say on the topic for now. He is someone who was authorized by the White House to speak on the subject but not be named.
Until now, Mr. Falwell had been the only person publicly saying that he was to be part of a White House task force a circumstance that has prompted months of speculation and anxiety about the purpose of the task force, how it might fit with other deregulatory efforts announced by the Trump administration, and, frankly, whether it would materialize at all.

(37,748 posts)Seems naive at best to believe this is about religion rather than simply more commercial branding for Trump.
But I think understand... we have to shrilly and melodramatically (and ineffectually) yell at that which our biases demand of us; any philosophy longer than the length of a bumper-sticker are trendy and cool!!!

(13,110 posts)They are pushing Christian religion on all fronts.
They are attacking women's rights.
If they can overturn Roe vs. Wade, outlawing birth control will be next.
They want Creationism taught in public schools.
They are blurring the lines between Separation of Church and State.
They are ignoring science.
You may think it is naive, but I take it as a serious threat to democracy.
The Birch Society has been working on this for decades.
The Seven Mountains Dominionism and Evangelicals have made their platforms perfectly clear.

(860 posts)there are those in the Republican party who prefer oil, and those who prefer armageddon and oil, or just armageddon.
Either way that has been their set of goals for years.
Now they are perfectly poised to steal oil and/or start their onslaught on Israel.
Whether in-directly or "accidently."
I've heard the born-agains talking about how Israel must be destroyed for jeebus to come back, and they really mean it.

(51,014 posts)needed proof that there is nothing to modern conservatism other than a desire to piss off liberals, the creation of a task force with a religious nut as the leader but with no particular purpose should be all the proof we need.

(5,642 posts)No need for any such thing. The Talibornagains already have the correct formula for educating our young folks.
- The only book used in history courses will be the Holy Bible. All that begattin' and smitin' and spakin' will be required reading.
- The only book used in science courses will be the Holy Bible. Strict adherence to scientific principles will be required, for example when asked where all the water went after the Flood, the correct answer is "away".
- The only book used in biology courses will be the Holy Bible. Solid evidence will be presented that snakes can speak, and whales have leg bones because, well, just because. Also that Scopes actually LOST the monkey trial.
- The only book used in philosophy courses will be the Holy Bible. For example, it will be shown definitively that the Holy Bible is the inspired word of the one and only true God. Says right in there.
Well, that's part of the Core Curriculum. There will also be electives, like Speaking in Tongues, and Holy Rolling.

(6,539 posts)False religion continually tries to insert itself into people lives where they have no business! A union will give students their basic human rights which false religion colleges are taking away.
Recall BYU: BYU suspended an African American basketball star during the NCAA basketball tournament for having sex with his girlfriend. For events held in tax-payer funded buildings and against tax-payer funded public colleges, we accept them denying a person's human rights? If they want to deny their student's basic human rights, let false religion play with themselves.

(37,748 posts)It's little more than public relations and commercial branding for Trump. A bone for his base, nothing else; and if Falwell fails to illustrate the proper obeisance for Our Little Liege, he too will eventually be called a loser on twitter, thrown to the curb and forgotten by the administration.
