Aug. recess in jeopardy

Source: Politico

FIRST IN PLAYBOOK -- WE HEAR … There is a chance Congress will stay in session for part of August. There has been political pressure from some members of the House and Senate to stay in town and try to get some things done instead of take a five-week recess. The pressure will only increase if the Obamacare repeal and replace isn’t done in the next few weeks. Congress has just 27 days in session until the summer break. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise: many lawmakers have had to face angry constituents on trips home.

I shudder to think of the levels of damage that tRump would be able to do with recess appointments. There are hundreds of appointments that he has not even floated names for yet...and pretty much every one of them could be put into office for the next 1-½ years as a recess appointment, without much recourse.

Handing him the recess appointment weapon is extremely dangerous.

Since they don't have to run for re-election this year, this is why they almost always take off the August after an election year and come back after Labor Day with a rush to work on appropriations by the end of September for the next fiscal year.

Facing angry voters in a town hall session. Anything.

They're not fooling anybody on the reasons for this.

Just last week the House passed a bill to repeal Dodd-Frank banking regulations. No hearings. No fact finding to see if it is working as intended and at what cost. All behind closed doors.
