Oklahoma man shoots, kills neighbor who was allegedly trying to drown twin babies
Source: WGNTV
ADA, Okla. -- An Oklahoma man shot and killed his neighbor on Friday after the man allegedly tried to drown two infants in a bathtub during an apparent domestic incident, according to KFOR.
Officials say Leland Foster was allegedly threatening the mother of the children with a knife during the incident. A 12-year-old girl who was inside the home ran to a neighbor's house for help.
The neighbor, Cash Freeman, rushed back over to the home to find Foster trying to drown the 3-month-old twins, a boy and a girl, in the bathtub.
Freeman shot Foster twice in the back with a gun.

(3,042 posts)Pick on someone your own size. Or the creeps that kill their kids and then themselves. Leave the kids out of it.
Hopefully Mr. Freeman has no legal problems.

(23,157 posts)Gun was risky. Glad it turned out okay, if it did.

(44,974 posts)You are allowed to use deadly force in defense of yourself or others. In this case others would be the twins.

(11,841 posts)This looked like a big guy; he may have been able to take away the gun. I dont have a bit of trouble with the neighbor shooting him in the back. I bet a few people will though

What problem can someone possibly have with a neighbor saving the infant children?
"Foster then went straight for the couples young boy and girl, took them to the bathtub and turned on the water, Sorrells said."

(11,841 posts)seems like with what you point out & the size of the guy, it was the least risky move

Sadly there are those on the virulently anti-gun and anti-self defense mindset who will find fault with the mans actions because he interjected himself into the situation instead of just calling police.

(11,841 posts)Looking at the size of this attempted killer, that was the wise thing to do.

(11,841 posts)I'm sorry, i thought thats what the other poster was referring to.
WaPo article had one of the earliest posts saying "why did he have to SHOOT him?"

(6,241 posts)that was mugged outside his college. The guy had a concealed weapon, and he and the mugger were both injured in the fight.
One poster (forgot who) said it would have been better if it was just he victim that was injured, rather than both of them, because it's better to just have one critically injured person rather than two.
I honestly had to turn my computer off for a bit after I read that.

(11,841 posts)If thats what was said, you cant get much dumber than that.
WOnder if they would feel that way if they were the victim? "hurt me, not the criminal!"

(6,241 posts)I just don't know why the criminals should get protections that the innocents don't get. I'm not pacifist. There are some truly awful people in the world. You don't know if the guy holding a gun to your head is just going to go away if you give him the money, or if he'll kill you to stop you from calling the cops or just because he likes killing people. And I'm not willing to put my life in the hands of someone like that. They need to be resisted with violence, even if it kills the criminal.

(25,902 posts)On one hand I am completely opposed to guns. On the other, I recognize that people need to be able to defend themselves. This is a case that really does fall between the cracks. The man perpetrating this crime is clearly a nutcase. I can only applaud those brave enough to stand up to him.
Had the neighbor not intervened, we'd all be scratching our heads about this, wondering how in the world a man gets to the point where he thinks he ought to drown his two babies.
There is no simple answer. There never is.

(11,841 posts)As this case, and many others, show that sometimes they're the only option. Another recent one was the civilian shooting a large man on top of a cop beating him on the pavement; told him to stop & he didnt so he shot him. Waiting for other cops wouldve likely ended in the death of the 1st one
But just strolling around with one on everyones hip? No. Open carry is for suckers anyway, IMO
