Video appears to show Texas officer striking teenage girl

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — The San Antonio Police Department is reviewing police body camera footage after a bystander posted video online that appears to show an officer punching an eighth-grade girl three or four times outside a birthday party last weekend.

Mayor Ivy Taylor issued a statement saying the video "is hard to watch and listen to" and that the department is reviewing the police body camera footage to determine exactly what happened.
 
The grainy footage was shot late Saturday outside an event center where authorities say officers were called about two men fighting at a quinceanera, a Hispanic tradition of celebrating a girl's 15th birthday.

The 14-year-old girl was arrested on a charge of assaulting a public servant, a San Antonio police spokeswoman said.

The punch comes pretty quick at the beginning of the video; about 50 seconds in the video replays in slow motion.

Looks like one officer had another girl in his grasp, and this girl stepped out of the crowd and started to intervene. Then this officer started punching her.

Not a great idea for the girl to get involved the way she did, but still no excuse for the completely, ridiculously inappropriate behavior by the police officer. He needs to be fired and charged with assault.

From the pictures in the chron.com article, it appears the girl was black.

EDIT - I take back my initial impression of what happened. Looks like the two girls were maybe talking to the officers, then the girl in the purple dress maybe took a step forward. Then gets punched, and both her and the girl in the white dress get dragged away by the cops. Ridiculous.

I can pretty much predict that the officer in question will claim something like the girl "aggressively lunged at him" and he then "feared for his life".............

Those 14 year old girls are so dangerous, especially when they're all hopped up on quinceanera cake and stuff......
