Two men caned 83 times in Indonesia for homosexual sex

Source: CNN

Two men were caned 83 times Tuesday as a punishment for having homosexual sex in Indonesia's ultra-conservative Aceh province.

Hundreds of people turned out to see the public punishment, held at a mosque in Banda Aceh, the capital of Aceh province, filming the caning on their phone cameras. It is very rare, even in Aceh, which follows strict Islamic law, for two men to be caned for having sexual relations.

The men, aged 20 and 23, were arrested in March by vigilantes. Neighbors had barged into an apartment with the men and filmed them naked with camera phones, according to rights groups. The videos were shared widely in local media.

They were subsequently found guilty of violating Aceh's strict Islamic laws and were sentenced to 85 lashes. On Tuesday, two lashes were taken off because the men had already served two months in prison.

its a place that seems scary to go, and one country I would avoid going to. I have heard horror stories from there that shocked me.

are more often than not in the Muslim world.

And even most of those governments - as benighted as they are - are more humane with their own people than these sociopaths in the GOP would be with their own fellow Americans, if they could do whatever they wanted.

It's more psychological torture and it even has its own marketing team that calls it "Conversion Therapy" or "Reparative Therapy"

The people who have the run of this world are very good are using wedge issues to keep people fighting one another - and as you know, the LGBT community, in many countries, are some of the easiest targets.

Indonesia is a perfect case in point: while the everyday Indonesian is kept distracted over LGBT people, whether not nor "Allah approves" or some such nonsense, the grand poobahs are making off with billions and leaving everyone else with this:

Yet i am filled with the question of how do we move on? How do we go from here?

Honestly, how do we in the LGBTQ community assure people, those who have been tainted by Abrihamic religious belief, that we are not evil?

How many more have to die?

Not to mention the sheer meanness.

What happens to these young men beyond the horrific punishment?
