Report: Girl in Weiner sexting case lied to damage Clinton
Source: The Hill
The teenage girl who had exchanged inappropriate text messages with former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) lied about her age and political motivations to harm Hillary Clinton, according to a report by WhoWhatWhy.
The girl was not under the age of 15, as the initial reports said, but nearly 17 when she first reached out to Weiner, the report said. She and her family were also not Clinton supporters, as the girl claimed in a letter published by BuzzFeed, according to social media posts unearthed by the website.
Seeing that Weiner is both a repeat offender his sexting addiction cost him his job in Congress as well as a shot at becoming mayor of New York and associated with one of the most important people in Clintons inner circle, it is conceivable that this was a set-up from the beginning, with the objective of embarrassing the Clinton campaign, the report reads.
The report also added that Chuck Johnson, a conservative writer, was one of the individuals who connected the girl to The Daily Mail.
Its not yet clear whether the motive was primarily money, a plot to smear Clinton, or both, the report notes.

If true, this doesn't absolve Weiner for what he did, just shows how dirty the other side played to destroy HRC.

(4,490 posts)The story is about a set up. Weiner's guilt isn't the point of the article. Nationally, 16/nearly 17 plays differently then 15. The point of the article is whether it was a partisan set up.

(4,490 posts)But Weiner's behavior is not the issue. He's already guilty.

(68,868 posts)isn't much of a story.

(59,504 posts)Clinton's loyalty to Huma Abedin put the campaign at risk. Weiner had already proved that he could easily become a problem for the campaign. No matter how close the personal bond, Abedin should herself have seen the risk and left the State Department and not been part of the Clinton campaign if she could not completely separate from Weiner. No one is irreplaceable.

(58,785 posts)You know, Karynnj, if you were the Hill campaign, it would be really hard to guess where right-wing attacks would be aimed. The right wing can and does twist kittens at play and apple pie into weapons as needed. Plus, for certain, if Abedin had sacrificed her career the attack would have just twisted something else.
Did you know, for instance, that just one of the anti-Clinton groups boasted of having five phony "gates" all lined up to roll when she won? Not real, created.
Imo, your post suggests that you might want to expand your reading to look at the big picture. It's not like this attack was new, not in timing, method, or purpose. Hillary and Obama were the most recent main targets; but with them (apparently) not in the front rank in future, others will be targeted instead. For most big money backers, it was never about those two, but about YOU--you as a representative of a nation of sponges trying to tax them to take care of you when you will not.
(THEIR warped viewpoint, of course, definitely not mine. I also pay in and expect an appropriate payout for my investment.)

(59,504 posts)Are you seriously saying that you never worried that Weiner's inexplicable actions could have negative consequences for his wife and for Hillary? What I wrote back then was that Huma should completely remove herself from the campaign or left Weiner. Note Hillary could then have put her in her administration after being elected, so that would not be sacrificing her career.
My reading and knowledge of the history of right wing attacks is likely easily as strong as yours. There were many absolutely made up lies - filming a filthy harbor in Texas and putting it in an ad that used the Standell's song "Dirty water" (Boston you're my home" , the SBVT spewing lies - all contrary to the Navy record, the birther stuff ... or in Clinton's case the terrible allegations about the depressed Vince Foster or the mythology that sprang out of Benghazi.
Note that in every one of these examples, the candidate had done absolutely nothing. Dukakis had actually worked to clean Boston Harbor. Kerry actually had a sterling military record with prestigious medals and nothing negative. Obama was born at a hospital in Honolulu and his birth announced by the hospital in the newspaper. The attacks were simply made up. The same with the two Clinton examples.
With Huma, I credited her loyalty, but the price was hefty. It would have been prudent for Huma to have left her positions with Clinton. Once everything with her husband was over and Clinton was President, nothing would stop her from appointing her again.
And... no matter the motivation, no matter how logical that she be secretive ... the email story, though overblown was her fault in that it did not need to happen - and likely would not have happened if she had archived the email and left it with the State Department rather than returning it about two years later after the SD "negotiated with her". Not to mention, the agreement that Clinton signed with Obama to keep the Foundation completely far away from the SD would have PROTECTED her had she followed it to the letter. It also would have protected the name of the Clinton Foundation, which does excellent work. Note NEITHER of these rose to being criminal, BUT, they were politically damaging.
I KNOW it is hard to hear any criticism of Clinton or her campaign. I think that her campaign was not as good as she deserved and it might have been that no one felt comfortable telling her what they thought.

(58,785 posts)This actually has absolutely nothing to do with him. If Abedin divorced Weiner, something else would have been used. Comey would have acted to subvert the election using another excuse, very likely provided to him by the very same people who set up Weiner for this purpose.

(14,167 posts)And if Abedin didn't resign, Clinton should have been smart and asked for her resignation during the campaign.

And instead find Chris Hanson.
Your evening insn't going to go as planned and neither is the rest of your life.
I can't believe people are attacking a minor here rather than a serial pervert.
I hope Anthony Weiner has NO contact with his son whether he goes to prison or not as long as that child is underage.
If the child chooses to make contact as an adult that will be his choice.
