Congress Denies Jeff Sessions Money to Fight Marijuana

Congress wont give Attorney General Jeff Sessions any money to fight a war on state laws to legalize marijuanaat least not in the new budget bill.
A bipartisan group of House Democrats and Republicans agreed Sunday to $1 trillion in government spending to avoid a shutdown and see them through to the end of September. But while it also gave $1.5 billion more for border security and $12.5 billion for new military spending, there wasnt any money for Sessions to go after states that have legalized medical marijuana and or where the recreational use of the drug is legal.
The move quashes potential plans to try to prevent 44 states, plus Washington D.C. and the territories of Guam and Puerto Rico, from implementing their own laws that authorize the use, distribution, possession, or cultivation of medical marijuana.
The move led pro-legalization advocacy groups and House representatives to urge Congress to amend federal law, removing cannabis from the Controlled Substances Act at a time when support for legalizing marijuana is at an all-time high.

(28,799 posts)marching, calling, visiting, attending meetings and town halls actually works. not all the time, but yeah. it does work. at the end of the day, the power truly is in the people - we need to wield it. in all my 61 plus years it has never been more important.

(4,066 posts)Has very little to do with the will of the people if you ask me. Has everything to do with revenue opportunities.
The same is finally happening with renewables over fossil fuels. It is always "follow the money."

I have been able to squelch the impulse to actually hate anyone for many years... until 1/20/17. Now I am challenged to have even a positive thought about these individuals.

(41,991 posts)I'm no marijuana fan, but In Seattle the other day at the May Day protest--tensions were high between pro-trump and anti-Trump as well as others--violence was a minute away. A friend of mine shot a video with a Trump supporter breaking out a blunt and sharing it around. "Who's an antifa?" He yelled. "Who's an illegal immigrant"? Offering to smoke out his political adversaries. Violence was averted. A little MJ is a good thing.
It's on my friends Facebook but I don't want him trolled and I don't know how to get the video without naming him.
