In the past hour, I was a guest on his radio show which is being guest hosted this week by Mike Papantonio of Ring Of Fire. Afterwards, the MSNBC prime time TV and radio host called in to the show to make the teary announcement and offer an update on his wife Wendy, who, he says, is just out of surgery, and will soon be recovering at home...

(2,769 posts)- because it's very hard to get an early diagnosis, therefore most women are seen when they are in Stage 3 or 4. Treatment for this disease is extremely rough -- surgery and many rounds of chemo.
I certainly hope that Ed's wife's cancer was caught early so she will have a chance at full remission.
(I was diagnosed with OC 8 years ago and am still here, thanks to my wonderful docs).

Have heard Ed Schultz mention her name, her trips with him connected with his work for years. He has made a natural point of referring to Wendy Schultz as a beloved and vital part of his life.
Firm, constant best wishes to Wendy and Ed Schultz.
Congrats on your time on the Ed Schutz show with Mike Papantonio today, thanks for your thread.

(6,213 posts)This is of course why access to health care should be for all. This frightening health related issue is bound to recommit Ed to his already strong advocacy for national single payer plan.

Wendy......hope you live a long life with Ed by your side.
Lost my grandmother and mother to OC. Both were gone within a month of diagnosis. I was able to get my Aunt, Sister. and I into Northwestern University's early detection Ovarian Cancer study. They were both ended up being diagnosed with early stage Uterine cancer, had Hysterectomies, treatment, and are still with me. The doctors decided to remove me from the study and convinced my insurance that I needed a preventative hysterectomy. It's all I could do.
You'd think I could live the rest of my life without feeling like a ticking time bomb but the kicker is my Mom had had a full hysterectomy and still died of OC. The doctors told us it was peritoneal cancer (tissue surrounding were the ovaries where). They tell me there is no real symptoms until it has spread to another organ.
Ovarian Cancer...
The only thing I can say for sure is .....know your family history and the subtle signs.....
Bloated feeling persists for more than a couple of weeks or continues to get worse, talk to your doctor. Also let your doctor know if you experience bloating in conjunction with feeling unusually full, a change to your bowel or bladder habits, or low back or pelvic pain. Those are often the early symptoms of ovarian cancer.
Constantly feeling full despite having eaten little.
It's not much but it's something.
Take care
