Exxon Seeks U.S. Waiver to Resume Russia Oil Venture

Source: WSJ: Jay Solomon and Bradley Olson

April 19, 2017 1:51 p.m. ET

WASHINGTON— Exxon Mobil ... has applied to the Treasury Department for a waiver from U.S. sanctions on Russia in a bid to resume its joint venture with state oil giant PAO Rosneft ...

The Black Sea request is likely to be closely scrutinized by members of Congress who are seeking to intensify sanctions on Russia in response to what the U.S. said was its use of cyberattacks to interfere with elections last year. Congress has also launched an investigation into whether there were ties between aides to Donald Trump and Russia’s government during the presidential campaign and the political transition.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is Exxon’s former chief executive officer and in that role forged a close working relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin and with Rosneft, a company that is critical to Russia’s oil-reliant economy. ...........

I guess they were waiting until there was enough cracks in 45's KGOP congressional support base...

Basically it codifies the Russia Sanctions for 10 years...

I was wondering what the hell kept sanctions going.

Here we have a WH and Cabinet, so totally corrupt they use the office to sell jewelry, fucking bobbles, and keep their stocks making money. They have refused to divest them selves in a transparent manner, but we let them get away with this.

These people have no regard for our Constitution, and will never follow the law. Don't think the Congress is gonna do crap about it either. How the hell do we get them out of office and charges with treason, collusion and accessories to treasonous act?? Seriously how do we do it?

Drumpf just can't put off removing some of the sanctions on Pootie after Pootie did him the solid with the Syria chemical weapons distraction. Of course, he's starting with Exxon, Tillerson's old company, so he'd get his payoff and keep quiet. So dumb! However the MSM will probably not put 2 + 2 together and some of these idiots will support the move. Faux will be thrilled, for example. This is just the first step in their long planned duet. Next Drumpf will find some way to say that Russia is now helping with ISIS and will either unilaterally remove all sanctions or will have it promoted in Congress by tools like Ryan, Chaffetz, Nunes, King or some other clown if he can't do that all by himself.

And the reason to lift the sanctions is the $500 billion Rosneft oil deal.

I'm not sure there is a pee pee tape, and that is rumored to be rumor that was spread to damage the credibility of the rumor's recipient. However, Trump can likely bring down Trump any day he chooses given the collusion. Putin would be culminating an effort to destabilize the West to reveal Russia's role, not sending himself to jail. Trump would be the one going to prison for life. Russia is in a win/win position at this point. Trump in the white House destabilizes the US, take Trump down now that he is in does the same.

So, Trump has to come up with a way to pay off the deal. This is what is going on. Trump does not need Putin's help as commander-of-distractions.

...............It is unusual for a company to seek a waiver based purely on future business prospects, according to former U.S. officials. American companies often seek waivers from sanctions citing humanitarian, trade or operational issues, the officials said.

Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.), the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee and a supporter of a bill that would limit President Donald Trump’s ability to waive or weaken U.S. sanctions on Russia, tweeted in response to news of Exxon’s waiver request, “Are they crazy? @WSJ: “Exxon Seeks U.S. Waiver to Resume #Russia Oil Venture.”
